Police Officers Donate to Two Worthy Charities

Inspector Tracy Burgess of the Public Protection Department - Good Afternoon Everyone. Thank you for attending the Hamilton Police Station for this special presentation. As we all know, Christmas is a time for giving and children are what make Christmas special.

Christmas is a time where office people and shift people get together and have a Christmas function of some sort. It is very common that during these functions people exchange gifts amongst each other and to coin a very common phrase, they have what is called a "Secret Santa."

Tonight: Financial Crime Unit Community Awareness Class - Tonight’s community class is on How to Spot Scams & Counterfeit Currency and will be held at the Hamilton Police Station, 52 Victoria Street Pembroke, in the Community and Media Relations Room on the ground floor. This free hour long workshop starts at 6pm and will end with light refreshments and a tour of the Hamilton Police Station.

Those planning to attend tonight’s free workshop are encouraged to arrive on time as the community class will start promptly and space is limited.

This is the final meeting in this series of community classes for 2012.

Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving - Around 1:40am on Sunday, December 16th police officers were monitoring traffic along Middle Road in Sandys parish when a white car sped through the area. Officers followed the vehicle and caused it to stop near Granaway Heights Road in Southampton. The driver, a 27 year old Pembroke man, appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Serious Crime Unit Gift Necessities to STAR Lighthouse Charity

Once again this year, officers from the Serious Crime Unit agreed to forego exchanging presents during the Christmas season. Instead they collected donations in order to provide necessities to the clients of the STAR Lighthouse charity. Serious Crime Unit support staff member Ms. Monique Heyliger was instrumental in selecting this worthy charity, which supports individuals living with HIV and AIDS.

Update: Reported Assault in Hamilton Parish - Detectives are continuing their inquiries into the apparent stabbing that occurred around 10:40pm Tuesday, December 11th at a Rocky Lane West, Hamilton parish residence. At last check the victim, a 43 year old Pembroke woman, was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Reported Assault in Hamilton Parish - Around 10:40pm on Tuesday, December 11th police and first responders attended a reported assault at a Rocky Lane West, Hamilton parish residence. Details are unclear at this time; however a 43 year old Pembroke woman had apparently been stabbed. She was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening. A 53 year old Devonshire man has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody pending further inquiries.

Investigation Ongoing Into Alleged Assault of Student - The Vulnerable Persons Unit is currently investigating the alleged assault of a 13 year old female student by a school employee. The female employee was taken into police custody in connection with the matter and has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Man Arrested In Connection With Woody’s Assault - Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit are continuing their investigation into the assault of a 29 year old Pembroke man that occurred around 12:45am Thursday, December 6th 2012, seriously injuring him. Inquiries have confirmed that the incident did in fact take place outside Woody’s Bar & Restaurant in Sandys parish and a 21 year old Sandys parish man has been arrested in connection with the matter.

Reported Medical Emergency in Sandys Parish Confirmed Assault

Around 12:45am on Thursday, 6th December 2012, police and first responders attended a reported medical emergency outside Woody’s Bar & Restaurant in Sandys parish. On arrival officers observed an unresponsive male on the premises. The victim, a 29 year old Pembroke man, was treated at the scene by EMTs and conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of apparent head injuries. He was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit; however the victim is currently hospitalised abroad receiving specialised care for serious head injuries. His injuries are not as a result of a shooting.

Update: Reported Medical Emergency in Sandys Parish - The 29 year old Pembroke man that was found lying injured on the ground outside Woody’s Bar & Restaurant in Sandys parish around 12:45am Thursday, December 6th has since been flown overseas for further medical treatment after initially being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have information on how the 29 year old Pembroke man sustained his injuries is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Ryan Leera or Detective Constable Timothy Harvey at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.
