Body Found Floating Near Agar’s Island

Around 5:30pm on Monday, June 24th a kayaker came upon the lifeless body of a male floating in the waters off Agar’s Island near Two Rock Passage.

The deceased is believed to be a white male in his 60s. Marine police personnel responded to the scene to recover the body for transport to shore.

Death was certified at 7:03pm by an on call physician. The body was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where a formal identification process will take place.

Attempted Theft of Jet Ski - Around 3:30pm on Saturday, June 22nd police officers responded to a report of an attempted Jet Ski theft in Sandys parish in the vicinity of RUBiS Boaz Island Service Station.

It appears that four males in a small motorboat attempted to remove a Jet Ski from the shoreline outside the service station but were unsuccessful. The suspects then made good their escape via the small motorboat they arrived in.

Near Drowning - At 1:38pm on Saturday June 22nd police responded to a report of a near drowning at a guest property in Flatts. On arrival, police spoke to a complainant who stated he was watching his two daughters and turned away for a short moment; however when he turned back he noticed his 4 year old daughter unresponsive in the water. He immediately went in, pulled his daughter out and began CPR. The ambulance was called and conveyed the young girl to the hospital. She was revived at the scene and is now resting comfortably on the Children’s Ward of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Advisory: Residential Burglaries

The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a recent increase in residential burglaries. We have come to realize that this could be contributed to the summer season and the need to have ventilation in homes. Thieves are generally opportunists looking for an easy target. The Bermuda Police Service would like to inform the public of common mistakes made by victims and encourage them to secure their property. Some of these mistakes include: leaving windows and doors open for ventilation with just the screens closed, no proper lighting around the house after dusk, not cancelling mail delivery when leaving the Island on vacation.

Senior Youth Development Officer Receives Police Merit Award

On Thursday, June 20th the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Wright attended a farewell luncheon at the Cathedral Hall in honour of Jason Hansford-Smith, Senior Youth Service Development Officer for the Department of Youth Sport and Recreation. Jason is a Bermudian who will be re-locating to Halifax, Nova Scotia with his Canadian wife.

On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, the Assistant Commissioner of Police thanked Jason for working with the Bermuda Police Service to help support Bermuda’s young people and assist the police in developing lasting relationships with them. [Click photo to enlarge].

Utility Pole Damaged in Collision - Around 9am on Thursday, June 20th police responded to an incident on the corner of Court Street and Reid Street in Pembroke where a tractor trailer struck a street utility pole, knocking it from its foundation.

As a safety precaution, the area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted until police officers and BELCO workers were able to neutralize the situation and repair the damage.

No one was injured and normal traffic flow resumed as of 9:15am.

Missing Juvenile: Trenton Williams [Located]

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 15 year old Trenton Williams.

The teenager is described as 6'2” tall with blonde hair. He was last seen on Saturday, June 15th wearing a white polo shirt, green shorts and slip in shoes.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 15 year old Trenton Williams is encouraged to contact the Vulnerable Persons Unit on 247-1678 or the main police number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.

Firearm Seized, Two Men Arrested - Around 3:30pm on Tuesday, June 18th police officers on mobile patrol in the Broome Street, Sandys parish area encountered two men on a motorcycle acting in a suspicious manner.

The officers caused the motorcycle to stop and the two individuals were searched. During the search a firearm was detected and seized. As a result, both men were arrested.

Update: Reported Serious Collision in Devonshire - At last check the 19 year old Pembroke man seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck around 3:30pm Monday, June 17th on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Devon Heights Road remains in critical condition at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Inquiries into this collision are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

Reported Serious Collision in Devonshire

Around 3:30pm on Monday, June 17th police and first responders attended a reported serious collision on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Devon Heights Road.

It appears that a male motorcyclist collided with a truck. The motorcyclist, believed to be a 19 year old Pembroke man, was apparently seriously injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. At last check the victim was in critical condition.
