ACCP Elect New Executive Committee

The 28th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) was hosted by the Bermuda Police Service at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel between 29th April and 2nd May 2013.

The theme of the conference was: “Police and Public Partnerships: Joining up prevention, intervention and enforcement strategies to tackle gangs and youth violence.”

Several international law enforcement agencies and other international organisations were represented at the conference, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Executive (NOBLE), INTERPOL, FBI, ATF, UK Serious Organized Crime Agency, RCMP, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and CARICOM. Update: Second Man To Be Charged With Malcolm Augustus Murder - The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that 28 year old Patrick Stamp of St. George’s appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, London UK on Wednesday, May 1st regarding an extradition request in relation to the murder of Malcolm Augustus on 25th December, 2012.

Mr. Stamp elected to challenge the extradition request, and therefore extradition proceedings in the UK courts will commence in due course.

Reported Emergency Aircraft Landing Ends Safely

Around 8:20pm on Tuesday, April 30th emergency services including the Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and King Edward VII Memorial Hospital personnel responded to L.F. Wade International Airport to a reported emergency aircraft landing.

It appears that a small electrical fire occurred during a Thomas Cook flight en route from Cancun, Mexico to Manchester UK. As a result the plane diverted to Bermuda

Arrest on Suspicion of Impaired Driving - Around 4am on Sunday, April 28th police officers on mobile patrol along Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Road encountered a car being driven erratically through the area.

As a result the driver, a 24 year old Sandys parish woman, was caused to stop. She appeared to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Man Injured in Fall - Around 1:15am on Sunday, April 28th police and first responders attended a report of a man injured in a fall along Front Street in the City of Hamilton.

The victim, a 39 year old Pembroke man, reportedly fell from a balcony in the vicinity of the Emporium building. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which are not considered to be life threatening. At last check the victim was in stable condition.

Single Vehicle Damage Only Collision in Devonshire - Around 6:15pm on Wednesday, April 24th police officers attended a reported single vehicle damage only collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Barkers Hill.

It appears that a jeep was being driven along North Shore Road when it collided with the curb and overturned. As a result the vehicle and a nearby utility pole were damaged; however there were no reported injuries.

Firearm & Ammunition Seized, Two Men Arrested

Armed police officers executed a search warrant at a Sound View Road, Sandys parish residence today, April 24th.

As a result, two male persons were taken into custody and a handgun as well as a quantity of ammunition was seized.

Inquiries into this matter are ongoing by the Serious Crime Unit. Working in partnership with members of the community, the Bermuda Police Service is focused on getting illegal firearms off the street.

Second Man To Be Charged With Malcolm Augustus Murder - The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that a 28 year old St. George’s Parish man has been taken into custody in the United Kingdom as a result of an extradition request, in relation to the murder of Malcolm Augustus on 25th December, 2012.

The man will appear before the courts in due course in the United Kingdom with a view to extradition to Bermuda to face charges. The man will be the second man to be arrested and charged in this case.

Bermuda Police Service to Host 2013 ACCP Conference

The Bermuda Police Service is proud to host the 2013 Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) Conference, which will be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess from Monday April 29th to Thursday May 2nd. This is the 28th annual conference of the ACCP and the theme is “Police and Public Partnerships: linking prevention, intervention and enforcement strategies to tackle gang and youth violence.”

The keynote speaker is Professor David Kennedy of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Professor Kennedy is the author of the book “Don’t Shoot,” in which he describes the Boston project, often referred to as “Operation Ceasefire,” to combat gang-related violence.
