Reported Industrial Accident - Around 1:30pm on Thursday, July 4th police officers and fellow first responders attended the scene of a reported industrial accident in the Ducks Puddle Drive, Hamilton parish area. It appears that a 58 year old local male construction worker became trapped between heavy machinery. He was eventually freed and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is apparently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
Reported Stolen Boat Recovered - The Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating the 17 foot Boston Whaler ‘Theta’, which was recently reported stolen from a mooring in the Mill Creek, Pembroke area.
The vessel was subsequently recovered around 10:30am on Tuesday, July 2nd and inquiries into this matter are ongoing.
Man Arrested After Reported Assault - Around 3:30pm on Monday, July 1st police officers responded to a reported assault in the vicinity of Warwick Long Bay. It appears that a 27 year old Paget woman was approached by an unknown male who accosted her and then brandished a bladed article; however she was not injured.
Officers subsequently located and stopped the suspect in a car being driven along South Road in Southampton. The 34 year old Paget man was arrested without further incident.
Reported Stolen Boat - Around 3:45pm on Sunday, June 30th marine police received a report of a stolen boat. It appears that a white 17 foot Boston Whaler with a white Bimini top and a grey Yamaha engine named ‘Theta’, registration number 10125, was removed from a Mill Creek, Pembroke mooring sometime after Sunday, June 23rd. Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information on the whereabouts of this vessel is encouraged to contact the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit on 247-1771 or the main police number 295-0011.
Sudden Death of Graham Spurling - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the sudden death of 61 year old Graham Spurling of St. George’s.
It appears that Mr. Spurling was kayaking in the Ferry Reach, St. George’s area around 2:30pm Thursday, June 27th before getting out of the kayak and going for a swim. Members of the public in the area then noticed Mr. Spurling was apparently in difficulty and came to his assistance.
Around 2:30pm on Thursday, June 27th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported medical emergency at Ferry Reach in St. George’s.
It appears that a 61 year old St. George’s man was kayaking in the area before getting out of the kayak and going for a swim. Members of the public in the area then noticed the male was apparently in difficulty and came to his assistance.
Reported Serious Motorcycle Collision - Around 12:55am on Thursday, June 27th police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle motorcycle collision at the North Round-a-bout in Pembroke. It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along Crow Lane when it collided with the round-a-bout. The rider, a 35 year old Paget man, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check the victim was in the Intensive Care Unit. The motorcycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this collision are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact PC Caleb Jn Pierre on 295-0011.
Superintendent James Howard - On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service, I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family and friends of 21 year old Mr. Verneil Richardson who sadly lost his life early this morning.
Mr. Richardson was on the property of the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club in Hamilton Parish where a function was being held. He was involved in an altercation and stabbed. He eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The Bermuda Police Service recognizes the impact this incident will have on this community. I want to reassure you that we are using all the resources at our disposal to bring the offender or offenders to justice.
Gunshots in Sandys Parish, No Reported Injuries - Around midnight on Wednesday, June 26th police officers responded to a report of gunshots in the Valley Lane, Sandys parish area. Forensic evidence confirmed a firearm was discharged; however there were no reported injuries. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
Sudden Death of Dr. James Martin - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 79 year old Dr. James Martin. Dr. Martin’s lifeless body was found floating in the waters of the Great Sound near Agar’s Island around 5:30pm Monday, June 24th by a kayaker.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dr. Martin’s death is ongoing; however at this time there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to Dr. Martin’s family to assist them at this tragic time.
