Injury RTC - Around 5:45pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Morgan Hill. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling west on Somerset Road when the rider, a 51 year old German woman, lost control and collided with a wall. The cycle then struck a utility pole; as a result the rider was thrown over an embankment. She sustained head injuries and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The visitor’s rental cycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Arrest

Around 9:45pm on Tuesday, Police executed a search warrant at a Club Road, Smith’s parish residence. As a result, a 38 year old Smith’s parish man was arrested and a quantity of suspected controlled drug seized. The Smith’s parish man was subsequently bailed. Inquiries are ongoing.

Handbag Snatch - At 5:35pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch at the junction of Middle Road and Tribe Road #1 in Devonshire. It appears that the victims, a 23 year old man and a 24 year old man (both French nationals), were riding a rental cycle traveling east on Middle Road when an unknown man on another rental cycle rode up from behind and grabbed a bag from the visitors’ cycle. The offender then made good his escape via Tribe Road #1. The visitors were not injured. The bag contained a quantity of cash, a black Olympus camera and personal items. The suspect is described as a black male with shoulder length dreadlocks wearing a white T-shirt.

Missing Juvenile – Champagne Carmichael

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 14 year old Champagne Carmichael. The teenager was last seen in the St. David’s area in the early hours of this morning. She is described as dark skinned, 5’6” tall weighing around 145 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark coloured dress. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 14 year old Champagne Carmichael is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011. The public is reminded that harbouring a juvenile is a crime punishable under the law.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Thefts from Unattended Vehicles - The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public that there have been several reports of thefts from unattended vehicles in the Pembroke area recently. In some instances small quantities of cash, tools and personal items were taken; in others nothing was taken. The latest incidents were reported to Police between 7am and 10am Friday, August 7th 2009 in the Middle Park Lane, Rockville Lane, Uppington Crescent and Ridgeway Road areas. Anyone with any information on these incidents is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011.

August 9 - Weekend Report

Disturbance - Around 2:25am today, Police attended a reported disturbance at Docksiders Pub & Restaurant on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers observed a large crowd of people inside and outside the premises. As Police dispersed the crowd, four men were arrested for obstruction and/or offensive words; in two of those arrests, use of a deterrent spray was necessary to subdue the individual. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Theft - At 7am today, Police received a report of a theft from an unattended vehicle. It appears that an unknown culprit gained entry into the complainant’s car while it was parked outside his Middle Park Lane, Pembroke residence. The culprit stole a quantity of tools and CDs as well as a small quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Funeral for Sergeant Gary Young

The funeral of Sergeant Gary Young, a 31 year veteran of the Bermuda Police Service, will take place 2pm Friday, August 7th 2009 at The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street in the City of Hamilton. There will be some disruption to traffic in the City of Hamilton as the Bermuda Police Service pays respects to their colleague.

Burglary - Around 6pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Spanish Crescent, Smith’s parish residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7am and 6pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a Toshiba laptop computer, as well as a quantity of cash and an item of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
