Damage Only RTC - Around 4:40am today, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Middle Road in Paget near the junction with Manse Road. It appears that a car was traveling west on Middle Road when the driver lost control and collided with a wall. The car was extensively damaged; however the driver left the scene prior to the arrival of Police. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 53 year old Barbara Massover from New York, USA. Around 3:20pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a medical emergency. It appears that Mrs. Massover, a visitor to the island, was with her family in the water at Mangrove Bay when she became unresponsive. She was a passenger of the ‘Sun Deck 2’ at the time, where she was given CPR by the crew. The victim was then transferred to Police vessel ‘Rescue 2’ where efforts to revive her continued before being rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however she was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:24pm by an on call physician.

Promotions

The Commissioner of Police is pleased to announce the following promotions: Promoted to Sergeant, Sergeant Clifford S. Roberts - Sergeant Clifford. S. Roberts Jr., a Bermudian, joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1986 as a Police Cadet. He then completed the Basic Training Course where he received the Baton of Honour. He has served as a Parish Constable as well as in Cycle Squad, Traffic Division and Narcotics. Presently he is attached to COMOPS.

Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 25 year old Daniel Phillips of Warwick. It appears that around 11:55pm on Wednesday Mr. Phillips was driving a car traveling east on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Brimstone Hill when he lost control of the vehicle, collided with a wooden railing and then a tree. The car ended up in a nearby field. The Warwick man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however he was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician at 12:20am Thursday. Mr. Phillips was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged.

Gunshots Reported in Warwick - Around 8:50pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of gunshots heard in the vicinity of Middle Road in Warwick, near the junction with Tamarind Vale. Police units attended the scene and searched the surrounding area; however nothing of note was found. Inquiries are ongoing.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Willful Damage/Theft in Smith’s parish - The Bermuda Police Service has received several reports of willful damage/theft involving vehicles parked in the Town Hill Road/Manor House Drive/Harrington Sound Road area of Smith’s parish during the early hours of this morning. It is unclear what, if anything was stolen from the vehicles. Inquiries into these incidents are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

August 16 - Weekend Report

Robbery - Around 12:20am today, Police received a report of a robbery on Camp Hill in Southampton. The victim, a 39 year old Southampton man, stated that he was walking up Camp Hill when he was approached by an unknown man who brandished a bladed article and demanded money. The Southampton man handed over his backpack and the offender then made good his escape on foot along the Railway Trail. The victim was not injured. The backpack contained a wallet, a small quantity of cash and personal items. The suspect is described as a light skinned male, approximately 5’9” tall of slim build wearing a white T-shirt, light coloured shorts and a white head wrap.

At 5:15am today, Police received a report of a serious assault on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Court Street. Details about what occurred are unclear at the moment; however the victim, a 31 year old St. George’s man, was found in an unresponsive state lying in the road by a member of the public. The St.

Injury RTC - Around 4:30pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Harbour Road in Paget near Red Hole. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling west along Harbour Road when the rider a 59 year old Georgia man lost control, collided with a wall and fell to the ground. The rider sustained lacerations to the left side of his body. His pillion passenger, a 54 year old Georgia woman, also sustained lacerations to the left side of her body as well as pain in her chest and ribs. EMTs also attended the scene.
