Sudden Death of American Visitor Ruth Birtwell

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 63 year old Ruth Birtwell of Ashford, Connecticut USA and extends condolences to her family and friends.

It appears that on the afternoon of Thursday, September 18th Mrs. Birtwell was in an area of shallow water at Horseshoe Bay when a wave knocked her over.

Advisory Regarding Recent ‘Chain Snatching’ Incidents

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public of an increase in reported ‘chain snatching’ incidents.

It appears that the offenders travel by motorcycle and accost lone motorcyclists, before fleeing with the stolen jewellery.

No injuries have been reported.

Marine Police Re-Emphasize Responsible Boat Operation

Following this past weekend’s search and rescue effort involving an overdue vessel, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Marine Unit, Bermuda Radio and the Bermuda Water Safety Council wish to remind local mariners that the responsible operation of a watercraft includes having the required safety and communications equipment onboard before leaving any dock or mooring.

Inspector Robert Cardwell, Officer Responsible for the Marine Unit stated: “I can confirm that the BPS Marine Unit was involved in this search, working together and coordinating efforts to recover the overdue vessel with Bermuda Radio.

Second Central Community Action Team Community Clinic Today

The Central Community Action Team will be holding a ‘Meet Your Community Action Team (CAT) Officers’ – Police Community Outreach Clinic today from 12 noon to 4pm at Lindo’s Market in Devonshire.

This initiative is an avenue for members of the public to voice any concerns they may have about ongoing anti-social or criminal activity in their neighborhoods, receive Neighborhood Watch Group information, as well as receive crime prevention information and pamphlets including financial crime prevention tips.

Eastern Community Action Team Community Clinic Tomorrow

Van Overturns in Pembroke

Around 10:30pm on Monday, September 15th first responders attended a reported single vehicle collision on Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke near the junction with Bishop Spencer Road.

It appears that a van was being driven along Marsh Folly Road when it collided with a curb and overturned. The driver, a 56 year old Hamilton parish woman, sustained minor injuries.

Motorcycle & Car Collide in St. George’s

Around 1pm on Sunday, September 14th first responders attended a reported two vehicle collision at the junction of The Sink Road and Tommy Fox Road in St. George’s.

It appears that a car was being driven along Tommy Fox Road and a motorcycle was being ridden along the same road when the vehicles collided at the junction.

Two Motorcycles Collide in Smith’s Parish

Around midnight on Friday, September 12th first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision at the junction of Knapton Hill and Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish.

It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along Knapton Hill and another motorcycle was being ridden along Harrington Sound Road when the vehicles collided at the junction.

Traffic Advisory: Delays Due to Southampton Collision [Updated]

There are currently traffic delays along a section of Middle Road, Southampton in the vicinity of Five Star Island, due to a reported two vehicle collision. Initial information suggests that a van and a large truck were involved.

Apparently the collision resulted in non-life threatening injuries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to take alternate routes if possible. More details will be provided as they become available.
