Twelfth Road Fatality for 2014: Wayne Dears

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Wayne Dears of Hamilton parish and extends condolences to his family and friends.
Mr. Dears was seriously injured in a reported single vehicle motorcycle collision that occurred around 12:10am Thursday, October 16th on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Tee Street.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Serpentine Road, Pitts Bay Road Pembroke area and use alternative routes until further notice as BELCO personnel work to repair downed electrical wires. An update will be provided as soon as normal traffic flow can resume in the Serpentine Road, Pitts Bay Road area.
Update: 6pm Thursday - The Serpentine Road, Pitts Bay Road and Cemetery Road Pembroke area has since been cleared of downed electrical wires from earlier this afternoon.
Policing for Halloween

Acting Superintendent Jerome Laws, Officer Responsible for the Community Policing Division – For those who celebrate Halloween the intention is for it to be an enjoyable event – an opportunity for harmless family fun, dressing up in costumes and going through the neighbourhood collecting candy.
First and foremost we want those participating in Halloween activities to be safe. Motorists are advised to slow down to help keep the roads calmer, particularly when traveling through neighbourhoods.
Arrest on Suspicion of Impaired Driving

Around 8:30pm on Wednesday, October 29th police received a report of a suspected impaired driver traveling along South Road in Paget.
Officers responded to the report and subsequently located a car being driven in an erratic manner near the Elbow Beach hotel.
The car was eventually caused to stop and the driver, a 75 year old Pembroke man, spoken to.
Owners Invited to Claim Vehicles From Police Impound

There are several vehicles presently in the Police Impound at Police Headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire. The available details of each vehicle will be advertised in the local media as well as online starting today, to facilitate collection by the rightful owners.

Single Vehicle Motorcycle Collision in Hamilton Parish

Around 6:30pm on Sunday, October 26th first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle motorcycle collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Radnor Road.
It appears that a motorcyclist was riding along North Shore Road when he collided with the curb. The 40 year old Pembroke man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a leg injury.
Governor Thanks BPS For Hurricane Gonzalo Efforts

At 2pm today, His Excellency the Governor George Fergusson visited Hamilton Police Station to express his sincere thanks to police officers for their efforts during Hurricane Gonzalo.
In the Governor’s brief remarks to a room full of officers, he commended those who were on duty during the hurricane for providing a valuable service to the community, while also recognising the officers’ families for their support.
Home Repair Supplies Advisory

Members of the public are advised to secure their home repair supplies when not in use, especially roof slate, as the Bermuda Police Service has already received one report regarding the attempted theft of such supplies from a Hamilton parish residence on Wednesday, October 22nd.
Residents should report any unusual activity or suspicious individuals seen around their homes or their neighbours’ homes without delay to the nearest police station or the main police telephone number 295-0011.
Traffic Diversion: Stowe Hill, Paget Area [Updated]

Motorists are advised to avoid the Harbour Road, Stowe Hill Paget area until further notice as work is ongoing to clear trees and other debris from that location. It is recommended that traffic traveling into the City of Hamilton along Harbour Road divert on to Middle Road via Manse Road or Chapel Road, while traffic traveling out of the City of Hamilton should use Trimingham Road. An update will be provided as soon as normal traffic flow can resume in the Stowe Hill area. Update: Normal traffic flow has since resumed in the Harbour Road, Stowe Hill Paget area.
