32nd Meeting Open: INTERPOL Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children

At 9:30am on Tuesday, September 30th the 32nd Meeting of the Interpol Specialists Group on Crimes Against Children, hosted by the Bermuda Police Service, was officially opened at the Fairmont Southampton.

His Excellency the Governor George Fergusson, the Premier and Minister of National Security the Hon. Michael Dunkley JP MP and the Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service Michael DeSilva gave opening remarks. Please see their remarks and photos from the event below.

Tenth Road Fatality for 2014

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of a 46 year old St. George's man who died as a result of a road traffic collision that took place yesterday at 12:30pm on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish.

Reported Serious Collision in Hamilton Parish [Updated]

First responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place around 12:30pm Monday, September 29th on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish, 10 metres east of Coney Island.

Details at this time are sketchy, but it appears that two motorcycles were being ridden in opposite directions along North Shore Road when they collided.

32nd Meeting of INTERPOL Specialist Group on Crimes Against Children

Arrests Made After Drug Seizure in Deepdale Road, Pembroke Area

Early this morning (Thursday, 25th September 2014), the Bermuda Police Service conducted multiple search warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act around the Deepdale Road East, Pembroke area. This resulted in the arrest of four adult males, one juvenile male and one female.

Investigation of Complaint Against Court of Appeal President Completed

The Bermuda Police Service has conducted a full and comprehensive investigation into the complaint made against the President of the Court of Appeal and the Registrar of the Supreme Court by a number of complainants under the collective name of the ‘Civil Justice Advocacy Group’ (CJAG). A file was reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions and a decision has been taken that no prosecution will be commenced in this matter.

Ongoing Witness Appeal: Teen Shot & Injured in Southampton

At last check the 17 year old Warwick male injured in a confirmed firearm incident outside a Riviera Crescent, Southampton residence was in stable condition at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shooting resulting in injury is ongoing. Any witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been in the Riviera Crescent, Southampton area around 10pm Monday, September 22nd and observed two individuals on a motorcycle acting suspiciously, should contact the investigating officer Inspector Dave Greenidge at the Serious Crime Unit on telephone number 247-1739 or 247-1185.

Teen Shot & Injured in Southampton

At 10:12pm on Monday, police and first responders attended a report of gunshots in the area of Riviera Crescent, Southampton. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 17 year old male was shot in his lower extremities. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Early reports are that two men on a motorcycle came into the area, discharged the shots and then made good their escape.

Sudden Death of Mark Whayman

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 53 year old Mark Whayman of St. George’s, who was involved in a reported marine incident that occurred around 11:30pm Sunday, September 21st in the Castle Harbour area.

He was subsequently pronounced dead at 12:25am Monday, September 22nd at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Whayman are the subject of an ongoing investigation, however foul play is not suspected.

Promotions to Inspector: Paul Simons & Steve Nurse

The Commissioner of Police would like to announce the promotions of Paul Simons and Steve Nurse to the post of Inspector. Paul joined the Bermuda Police Service in 1996 and Steve has over 29 years of policing in Bermuda.

Paul Simons has worked in operational policing, Task Force (now the Police Support Unit), Roads Policing Unit and the Western Community Action Team. He will take responsibilities in the Duty Inspectors Office.
