24 Year Old Man Fatally Shot in Sandys Parish

Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield – At 11:40pm on Sunday, September 23rd a shooting occurred outside Woody’s Bar on Malabar Road in Sandys parish, in a bus layby. As a result, a 24 year old man was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. The victim was taken from the scene by private transport to Port Royal Fire Station, where he was examined by an on call doctor and pronounced dead at that location.

As such, a murder investigation has been commenced by the Serious Crime Unit.

Supreme Court: Trio Plead Guilty to Armed Burglary

The Bermuda Police Service acknowledges the guilty pleas of Raymond Kidd, Tristan Burgess and Olicie Morgan in Supreme Court earlier today. Puisne Carlisle Greaves accepted the trio’s guilty pleas regarding the men being responsible for committing a series of offences, including aggravated burglary while armed with a firearm, serious sexual assault, assault with intent to commit robbery and the taking of two motor cycles without consent of the owners. These offences all occurred during the month of March this year.

St. George’s Police Station Closed For Repairs - The public is advised that the St. George’s Police Station is currently closed for repairs by Works & Engineering. The restoration is anticipated to take six weeks to complete.

During this time policing operations for the East End will continue to operate on a 24 hour basis from Southside Police Station. A phone located on the outside of the St. George’s station will continue to automatically connect the user to the Station Duty Officer at Southside Police Station.

Traffic Advisory: Middle Road, Southampton - The motoring public is advised to adhere to the traffic lights erected along Middle Road, Southampton near Waterlot Inn as BELCO performs work to relocate cables in conjunction with Government's road-widening project.

The traffic lights are necessary due to the equipment and trenching in the area. It is anticipated that the traffic lights will remain in place until September 29th.

Update: Eighth Road Fatality for 2012

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 45 year old Aaron Smith of St. George’s.

Around 2:20pm on Tuesday, September 18th Mr. Smith was riding a motorcycle along North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Cable Hill when a collision occurred with a car at the entrance of Terceira's gas station.

Eighth Road Fatality for 2012

Around 2:20pm on Tuesday, September 18th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Cable Hill. It appears that a motorcycle and a car were traveling along North Shore Road when they collided at the entrance of Terceira's gas station.

The motorcycle rider, a 45 year old St. George's man, was seriously injured as a result and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries. At this time, it does not appear that the occupants of the car were injured.

Investigation Ongoing: Friswells Road Vehicle Fire

Around 6:20am on Monday, September 17th police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a reported vehicle fire on Friswells Road in Devonshire. A white Suzuki car was damaged as a result.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and police and Fire Service investigations are ongoing. House-to-house enquiries have been carried out and several items have been seized for forensic examination.

Officers from the Bermuda Police Service Police Support Unit and Community Action Team have been patrolling the general area to provide community reassurance and support

Vehicle Fire - Around 6:20am on Monday, September 17th police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a reported vehicle fire on Friswells Road in Devonshire. A white Suzuki car was damaged as a result; however the fire was apparently extinguished prior to the arrival of the emergency services. There were no reported injuries. Inquiries into this incident are underway and anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Detective Constable Chris Sabean on 295-0011.

Update: Confirmed Firearm Incident at Woody’s Drive In

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service Serious Crimes Unit continues their investigation into what appears to be a man brandishing a large automatic firearm (“machine” gun type weapon) and attempting to discharge into a crowd of persons in attendance at Woody’s Bar in Sandys Parish. This is alleged to have occurred about 10pm on Saturday 25th August, 2012. The image below will hopefully assist in refreshing the memories of witnesses and members of the public about the possible identity of the suspect in this particular case.

Collision on Harbour Road - Around 3:30pm on Wednesday, September 12th police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Stowe Hill. It appears that a female visitor to the island was riding a rental cycle along Harbour Road when the rental cycle collided with a wall. As a result the rider, a 55 year old American woman, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check she was in stable condition on a general ward. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
