From Monday, September 21st to Sunday, September 27th Police conducted high visibility patrols around the island, particularly over the weekend when there were several public events taking place.

On Sunday afternoon as a result of specific information received regarding the potential for violence at or around the Charity Cup football matches, members of the Police Support Unit conducted stop and search checks of vehicles along Mullet Bay Road in St. George’s.

63 individuals were stopped or searched, with 14 individuals arrested for outstanding warrants and drug offences.

Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 65 year old Rebecca Blynd of Florida, U.S.A. Mrs. Blynd was found in an unresponsive state by friends at a Cedar Vale Lane, Devonshire residence around 7:10pm Saturday. She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician. Foul play is not suspected; however an autopsy is anticipated in due course. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

Vehicle Fire

Injury RTC - Around 4:20 this morning, Police received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on St. John’s Road in Pembroke. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however, it appears that a car was traveling along St. John’s Road near Gorham’s when the driver, a 21 year old Pembroke woman, lost control and collided with a house in the area. The Pembroke woman sustained injuries to her head and chest while her front seat passenger, a 24 year old Hamilton parish man, sustained a laceration to his left arm.

Exercise Island Sentinel

This weekend a joint exercise known as ‘Island Sentinel’ involving the Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and the Bermuda Regiment will take place. It is expected to start Friday evening and end Sunday morning. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service will be conducting live burning in the western parishes as part of the exercise. Therefore the public is advised not to panic if they see black smoke coming from that area of the island.

Burglary - Around 12:15pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Somerset Road, Sandys parish residence. The complainant stated that around 5:30am that day she awoke to discover that an unknown culprit had gained entry into her home. The culprit stole a black leather handbag containing a quantity of cash, a watch and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Arrest & Seizure of Illegal Substance

Around 6am today, Police executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a Southampton residence. As a result, a 43 year old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis (pictured), possession of a controlled drug and possession of drug equipment. In addition, the Police officers were accompanied by the Dog Warden and a pitbull was seized from the residence. This matter is currently under investigation.

Arrest - Around 12 noon today, Police were on mobile patrol in the area of Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road/Palmetto Road in Pembroke when officers observed a man on a motorcycle riding in an erratic manner. Officers followed the individual and a pursuit ensued. The individual then led officers on a chase through western Pembroke. After that, the individual went to St. John’s Hill Road where he eventually abandoned his vehicle and made his way into a residence on Hill Crescent. Officers maintained observation of the residence, which the 25 year old Pembroke man subsequently exited. He was promptly arrested.

Burglary - Around 8:20pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a West Side Road, Sandys parish residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 9:45am and 7:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Robbery - Around 2:45am on Sunday, Police received a report of a robbery on Richmond Road in Pembroke. It appears that around 2am that day the victim, a 45 year old Pembroke man, was walking from Robin Hood Pub & Restaurant when three unknown men attacked him from behind and forced him on to the nearby AIG property. The suspects then made good their escape with the victim’s wallet containing a quantity of cash and personal items. The Pembroke man sustained facial injuries; however, he declined medical attention. The suspects are believed to be three young black males. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
