Two Men Charged With Official Corruption & Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice

Assistant Commissioner Paul Wright - The Bermuda Police Service would like to add some detailed comments about the circumstances leading up to the appearance in court this morning of two men charged with official corruption and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

September 18 - Daily Report

Disturbance - Around 3am today, Police received a report of a disturbance on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Crawl Point Lane West . The victim, a 23 year old Hamilton parish man, stated that he did not know what happened or who may have assaulted him. Two men seen acting suspiciously in the area were approached by Police but fled the scene on motorcycles. The Hamilton parish man was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of facial injuries as well as abrasions to his left arm. At last check he was in stable condition. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Disturbance - Around 2:55pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a disturbance at Just Rite Enterprises on Middle Road in Southampton. It appears that the victim, a 24 year old Sandys parish man, was being chased through the premises by a group of unknown men. However, the Sandys parish man managed to flee the store and make good his escape in a car. The victim sustained a laceration to his back, a bump to the head and a swollen right hand. However, he declined to make a formal complainant and wished no further Police involvement in the matter.

Gun & Drugs Seized As Two Men Arrested

A co-coordinated effort by Police resulted in the arrest of a 27 year old St. George’s man on suspicion of possessing a firearm. The arrest of Gregory Outerbridge happened around 3:45am Saturday, September 12th on York Street in St. George’s. Outerbridge was the pillion passenger on a motorcycle ridden by a 29 year old Hamilton parish man who was also arrested. That individual was subsequently bailed. A semi-automatic pistol and a quantity of controlled drugs believed to be cannabis were seized at the time of the arrests.

Burglary - Around 7:35 this morning, Police received a report of a burglary at Kiddie Academy on Laffan Street in Pembroke. Details are unclear at this time; however initial information suggests that a computer and other items were stolen from the premises. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 8pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a St. Mary’s Road, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 12 noon and 3pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a Toshiba laptop computer. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Willful Damage/Theft - Police have received several reports of willful damage/theft from vehicles in the Mount Langton Crescent/Langton Lane/Robin Hood Drive, Pembroke area over the weekend. In some instances small quantities of cash and or personal items were taken from the vehicles; in others, it appears that nothing was taken.

Police have also received reports of willful damage/theft from two vehicles in the Friswells Lane, Pembroke area. It appears that sometime between 9pm on Thursday and 8:30am on Friday an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into both vehicles. Again, it appears that small quantities of cash and or personal items were taken.

Damage Only RTC - Around 10:40am on Saturday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Scaur Hill Drive involving a car and a marked Police vehicle. It appears that the car and the Police vehicle were both traveling south on Somerset Road with the Police vehicle behind the car. The car came to a stop; however, the Police vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the car. The driver of the car, a 74 year old Southampton man, was not injured. The officer driving the Police vehicle was also uninjured.

During the early hours of this morning (Saturday) Police arrested a 27 year old St. George’s man and a 29 year old Hamilton parish man on suspicion of possessing a firearm. A court appearance for both men is anticipated in due course.
