October 25 - Weekend Report

Disturbance - At 1:55am on Saturday, Police received a report of a disturbance at Bermuda College. Officers arrived at the location a short time later and observed a large crowd present. Some individuals within the crowd were reportedly throwing helmets at each other; however those allegedly involved made good their escape. As a result, Police maintained a highly visible presence in the area until the crowd dispersed without further incident.

Injury RTC - Around 1:25pm today, Police received a report of a road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Store Hill. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however it appears that a truck overturned. As a result there were traffic delays in the area; however the vehicle involved was subsequently removed from the scene and normal traffic flow resumed. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Marine Theft - Around 9pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a marine theft. The complainant stated that his white 17 ft. Boston Whaler was removed from the Red Hole, Paget area. The vessel, registration #343, was last seen sometime between 9am and 8:30pm that day and is fitted with a 40 hp Yamaha outboard engine. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of this vessel is encouraged to contact the Marine Police Unit on 299-4585.

Update: Assault at Berkeley Institute - The two 16 year old male students involved in an incident at The Berkeley Institute around 1:50pm Tuesday were treated at the hospital for their injuries, released and subsequently arrested; one for wounding and the other on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug. Both young men have been bailed pending further investigations. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
Assault at Berkeley Institute

Around 1:50pm today, Police responded to a report of a disturbance between two male students in the upper courtyard of The Berkeley Institute. Upon Police arrival it was noted that two 16 year old boys received injuries. One received an injury to his hand and the other multiple puncture wounds to his body. Both students were taken to KEMH where they are being treated for what is being described as non-life threatening injuries. A Police investigation has commenced with officers from the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit.
Commissioner of Police Responds to Incident at Southampton Rangers Sports Club

On Saturday outside of the Southampton Rangers Sports Club there was an incident that once again put the safety at our sporting events or specifically at football games back into the spotlight. A football game took place with Boulevard Blazers Football Club’s development team and Southampton Rangers Sports Club’s development team at 1 p.m. at Southampton Rangers Sports Club. At the end of the match players from the Boulevard team were reportedly getting into a taxi when several unknown males attacked the vehicle using projectiles and other objects. Police were called and upon our arrival it was ascertained that the taxi had already left and the suspects had also made good their escape.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Response to Incident at Southampton Rangers Sports Club

Over the last few days much has been said about the Bermuda Police Service and the lack of attendance at a particular sporting venue this weekend. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few of the facts involved in this incident. First, on Saturday October 17th there was a football match between Boulevard Blazers development team and Southampton Rangers development team at 1pm at Southampton Rangers Sports Club.

Damage Only RTC/Impaired Driving - Around 3:45am on Sunday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Church Road (in the area of 5 Star Island). It appears that a car was traveling west on Middle Road when the driver, a 41 year old Warwick man, lost control and collided with a utility pole causing the vehicle to overturn, ending up on its roof. The Warwick man was not injured; however, he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained after failing the alco-analyser test. The vehicle was extensively damaged.
