Man Arrested At Cabinet Office

At approx 3.20pm today, Police responded to a reported disturbance at the Cabinet Office. On their arrival, it was alleged that a 51 year male from Hamilton Parish had acted in a threatening manner towards a Minister. The male was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station. Inquiries are ongoing.

Arrest - The Bermuda Police Service in conjunction with H.M. Customs can confirm that a 28 year old Latvian man is in Police custody after a significant amount of illegal drugs, a firearm and ammunition was seized from his sailboat. The 28 year old man diverted to Bermuda after experiencing mechanical problems with his boat while traveling to Europe. Investigations conducted thus far suggest that this shipment of illegal drugs was not destined for Bermuda, however this seizure is another good example of cooperation between overseas law enforcement agencies as well as local agencies.

Cup Match Weekend 2011 – Post Event Press Conference

Acting Assistant Commissioner Martin Weekes - The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the Bermuda Public for their support and assistance over the Cup Match weekend. As you will be aware there were no serious incidents throughout the long weekend despite huge crowds at the game, the Non-Mariners and the many other events that took place. The few problems that occurred were limited to minor outbreaks of anti-social behavior mainly by young teens. These problems in some instances caused the Bermuda Police Service to close down certain events in order to prevent further escalation of anti-social behavior.

Sudden Death of Aaron Edness - Police can now confirm the death of 24 year old Aaron Edness who died on Friday July 29th. The circumstances are as follows:

At 7:55pm on Friday first responders attended a medical emergency at a residence on Cottage Hill in Hamilton Parish. As a result Aaron was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he later was pronounced dead at 11pm by a hospital physician. Foul play is not suspected in the death of Aaron Edness and the Bermuda Police Service extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Sudden Death

At 7:55pm yesterday first responders attended a medical emergency at a residence on Cottage Hill in Hamilton Parish. As a result at 24 year old Hamilton Parish man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.  

No further information will be given until next of kin has been notified and foul play is not suspected.

The Bermuda Police Service can report a relatively uneventful Thursday (Friday until 6pm) as there were minor pockets of activity around the island with only a few minor incidents to report. Of note police were called to Horseshoe Bay beach yesterday after receiving a report of a disturbance. Upon police arrival 2 males were taken into police custody processed and detained at Hamilton Police Station and police in the abundance of caution shutdown Beach Fest at 8:30pm without further incident.

Cannabis Plants Seized - On Tuesday July 26, The Bermuda Police Service seized 40 of what are believed to be cannabis plants in various stages of growth in the Radnor Road, Smiths parish area. An investigation into this seizure has commenced. This is yet another example of the community working together with the police to eradicate illegal drugs from their neighbourhoods. 

Joint Press Conference - Cup Match 2011

Today a joint press conference was held with the Bermuda Police Service, Bermuda Road Safety Council, CADA and the St. George's Cricket Club regarding Cup Match 2011. Here are some of the key messages:

Recovered Firearm - At 2am on Monday 25th July, Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a South Road, Southampton establishment. Police were alerted to a 26 year old Southampton man who was acting suspiciously. At the conclusion of a short vehicle pursuit, the man and his vehicle were detained and searched, following which a loaded firearm was seized. He was arrested and detained pending further police investigations. There were no injuries reported.

Cannabis Plants Seized - Around 8pm on Thursday, police attended the Cedar Park Road, Devonshire area after a report of cannabis cultivation. Officers made a seizure of what are believed to be 15 cannabis plants from an outside area. No arrests were made at the scene. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.
