8th Annual Hurricane Fabian Memorial

Today at 2pm the 8th anniversary of Hurricane Fabian and the four lives lost during the storm was commemorated. In tribute, a small group gathered at the Memorial Bench at Kindley Field Park to mark the occasion. Following a moment of silence, the lives of those lost were fondly remembered before yellow flowers were thrown into the ocean.

Frog Lane Collision

Around 7:30pm on Monday, September 5th police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Frog Lane in Devonshire. Details about the collision are unclear at this time; however it appears that it involved at least two vehicles. The extent of the injuries to those involved is currently unknown but not believed to be life threatening. A 34 year old man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving at the scene. A section of Frog Lane was cordoned off for approximately two hours as officers examined the collision area. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Missing Person: Shane Curtis - The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 51 year old Shane Curtis. Mr. Curtis was last seen on Thursday, September 1st at his Sandys parish residence and is described as dark skinned, approximately 5’4” tall of slim build with a bald head and clean shaven face. He was last seen wearing dark coloured track pants and a white T-shirt.

Man Arrested As Murder Investigation Continues

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the sixty six year old female found murdered in her Berry Hill, Paget home yesterday as Ms. Ida James. A well-known and liked individual, Ms. James lived alone at her residence, and was found in an unresponsive state by a member of the public early yesterday morning.

Detectives from the Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit are continuing their investigation into the murder of sixty six year old Ms. Ida James.

Confirmed Firearm Incident - Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Old Military Road, St. George’s area around 12:20pm on Friday September 2nd. Officers attended the scene and recovered evidence that a firearm had been discharged. However, no injuries were reported. A 31 year old man was arrested in connection with this incident. Inquiries are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or anyone with any information to contact St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Murder Investigation Commenced By Police

Detectives from the Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit are investigating the death of a woman at a residence on Berry Hill Road, Paget.

At about 8:30am this morning, an off duty police officer was flagged down by a member of the public, and alerted to the presence of an unresponsive female inside a residence.

Assistance was immediately sought, and EMTs from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and an on call doctor attended the residence. Death was certified by the on call doctor at the scene.

Collapsed Wall - At approximately 7am on Thursday September 1st, Police responded to a report of a collapsed wall in the Harbour Road, Paget area. On arrival, officers noticed debris in the road and began the cleanup process. The Department of Public Works was later called in to assist. Traffic was initially diverted onto Middle Road, which caused some traffic delays. Harbor Road was re-opened later in the morning.

Fee Required For Specific Police Related Services

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public that as of Thursday, September 1st 2011 it will cost $100 to perform a police criminal record check and provide a police clearance certificate. This payment should accompany a completed application form, which is available here. The following services are now also the subject of a $100 fee:

Man Injured At Nightclub - Around 12:25am on Sunday, police and first responders attended a reported incident at Captain’s Lounge on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton. Details about what occurred are unclear at this time; however a 32 year old man was found injured at the bottom of the stairs. The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and at last check was in the Intensive Care Unit. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

August 28 - Weekend Report

Robbery - Around 8:45pm on Saturday, police responded to a reported robbery in the Hermitage Road, Devonshire area. It appears that the victims, a man in his 20s and a teenage girl, were sitting in a parked car in the area when they were attacked by a group of unknown men brandishing bladed articles. Afterward their assailants fled the scene with a quantity of jewelry and a cellular phone. The victims were treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital; the teenage girl’s injuries were examined and she was subsequently released while the male victim remains at the hospital receiving medical attention for a leg wound.
