Man Arrested on Suspicion of Sexual Assault

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm that at 8.25am today, Saturday May 28th 2011 a female reported that while jogging in the area of Paynters Road and Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton Parish she was accosted by a man on a motorcycle. A struggle ensued but she was able to escape and continued jogging east along Harrington Sound Road. On reaching the area near the Walsingham Lane and Harrington Sound Road a short time later, the same male accosted the female jogger again; however this time she received assistance from a passing motorist. The suspect escaped, but a full description of him and the motorcycle he was riding was circulated to all police patrols.

Injury RTC in Sandys Parish - Around 2:15pm on Friday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Bob’s Valley Lane in Sandys parish near the junction with Bluebell Lane involving two motorcycles. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along Bob’s Valley Lane when they collided. The riders of the motorcycles, a 19 year old Sandys parish woman and a 49 year old Warwick woman were both injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Police Shoot Dog Set Upon Animal Warden

Acting Chief Inspector Calvin Smith - Around 12.30pm today, Friday May 27, 2011 police officers and Government Animal Wardens attended a report of dog cruelty in the area of Court and Elliot Streets, Pembroke.

The owner of the dog was located but a confrontation and a foot chase quickly ensued.

The dog was set upon the warden who was attacked violently and a passerby was also attacked in the process.

Bermuda Day Police Activity - The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their co-operation over the Bermuda Day holiday. Despite a few apparently minor disputes, there were no reports received of anyone being seriously injured. In addition no major incidents were reported.

Police officers provided high visibility patrols throughout the Bermuda Day holiday, conducting stop & search checks at various locations. Five people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and officers responded to seven reports of loud music.

Police Sergeant Wins Bermuda Day Cycle Race!

Sergeant Darren Glasford won what was arguably one of the closest Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race events in recent history today! Representing Winner's Edge in the adult male category, Sergeant Glasford crossed the finish line in 26 minutes, 37.3 seconds followed by Damian Sharp (Fast Forward Freight Bicycle Works) in 26 minutes, 37.8 seconds. Rounding out the top men was Wayne Scott (Winner's Edge) in 26 minutes, 37.9 seconds. Junior male cateogry winner Dominque Mayho (Madison) actually finished second overall in a time of 26 minutes, 37.6 seconds.

Joint Statement - At the weekly meeting held today, Monday May 23rd, 2011 between the Governor Sir Richard Gozney, the Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Perinchief, Senator Jonathan Smith and the senior command of the Bermuda Police Service a high level briefing took place highlighting the extensive preparation for policing tonight as well as for the May 24th Bermuda Day holiday. The briefing emphasized the measures put in place to deal with any potential trouble that may occur.

Arrests for Impaired Driving - Police were stationary monitoring Crow Lane in Pembroke at 2:30am on Sunday when they observed a pillion passenger get off a motorcycle without a helmet. This resulted in the officers stopping the motorcycle and it was at this time that they noticed the male rider’s breath smelled of intoxicants. The 31 year old man was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was detained after failing the alco-analyser test.

Confirmed Firearm Incident In Devonshire

Around 12:35pm on Monday, Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident in the Palmetto Road, Devonshire area. A 48 year old man and a 39 year old man received gunshot wounds and were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Police have cordoned off the scene and an active investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Burglary Advisory - The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a recent increase in burglaries where high value electronic equipment is being taken. We continue to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries by making sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. In addition we are encouraging all residents to safely store their valuables out of sight, record serial numbers of all items especially electronic equipment and to take pictures of their possessions so that if they are stolen and later recovered, there is an accurate way of identifying them.

Robbery - Around 2:55am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a robbery. It appears that earlier that morning the victim, a 21 year old Warwick man, was driving a car along Woodlands Road in Pembroke when he was accosted by an unknown man on an orange motorcycle. The motorcyclist brandished a bladed article before making good his escape with the Warwick man’s wallet containing personal items. The victim was not injured. The suspect is believed to be a dark brown skinned male, approximately 5’10” tall wearing a white helmet, black shirt and black pants.
