On Sunday afternoon, 5th June, police officers were conducting proactive patrols in the east end especially in the area of Mullet Bay and Wellington Slip Roads. Their attention was drawn to a group of men who were acting suspiciously and a search revealed a quantity of controlled drugs for which the men were arrested. A further search revealed a firearm and ammunition concealed nearby. The men were arrested in connection with the firearm and further enquiries and searches have resulted in the arrests of two other men. All four remain in custody as of today.
Damage Only RTC in St. George’s - Around 9:55am on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision at the junction of Southside Road, Cooper’s Island Road and Pepper Hall Road in St. George’s. It appears that a car was traveling along Cooper’s Island Road when it collided with the round-a-bout at the junction. As a result the car received extensive front end damage; however the driver, a 28 year old man, was not injured.
Injury RTC in St. George’s - Around 4:45am on Sunday, Police and first responders attended a reported three vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Southside Road in St. George’s in the vicinity of the Southside Cinema. It appears that a SUV, a car and a taxi were traveling along Southside Road when the collision occurred. The drivers of the SUV and the taxi, a 37 year old Pembroke man and a 41 year old Sandys parish man respectively, were injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.
Update: Injury RTC at Court Street & Dundonald Street - Around 4pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Court Street and Dundonald Street in Pembroke involving a motorcycle and a truck. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along Dundonald Street when they collided at the junction. The rider of the motorcycle, a 27 year old Southampton man, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are relatively minor. The truck driver, a 59 year old Warwick man, was not injured.
Around 4:00p.m. on Wednesday 1st June, 2011 a combined H.M. Customs and Bermuda Police Service team arrested three men in the Shelly Bay, Hamilton Parish area for offences relating to the importation of a significant quantity of controlled drugs.
The arrests were the result of a prolonged investigative effort with partner agencies in the United States. At the time of the arrests, a number of evidential items were seized, including a substantial sum of cash.
The Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit has noticed an increase in counterfeit cashier’s cheques and travellers’ cheques locally. The typical fake cashier’s cheque appears to be mailed from the U.K. and claims to be worth $2,750. [Example shown here].

‘Prolific’ Burglar Receives Three Year Prison Sentence - A 49 year old man with a criminal history was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Magistrate Archibald Warner after pleading guilty to a recent Paget burglary in Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. Dean O’Brien admitted to unlawfully entering the home and stealing money on Thursday, May 26th; however police officers arrested him a short time later. In addition to the three year prison term, Magistrate Warner stipulated that O’Brien will also serve two years of probation.
Injury RTC on Pitts Bay Road - Around 5:30pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke near the junction with Rosemont Avenue. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however it appears that a rental cycle was traveling along Pitts Bay Road when it collided with a wall. Apparently the two individuals on the rental cycle sustained minor injuries. Inquiries are underway.
Damage Only RTC in Southampton - Around 7:45am on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on South Road in Southampton in the vicinity of the Fairmont Southampton Resort. It appears that a SUV was traveling along South Road when the vehicle went over an embankment. The driver of the vehicle, a 39 year old Sandys parish woman and her passengers, a 9 year old girl and a 4 year old boy, were not injured. The extent of damage to the vehicle is unknown at this time.
Update: Man Arrested on Suspicion of Sexual Assault - The 29 year old man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on Saturday, May 28th remains in custody in connection with both incidents reported Saturday morning; the first occurring in the Paynters Road, Walsingham Lane, Harrington Sound Road Hamilton parish area at 8:25am and the second in the South Road, Watch Hill Park Smith's parish area around 9am.
