Burglary - Around 2:50 this morning, Police received a report of a burglary at an Overplus Lane, Sandy’s parish residence. The complainants stated that sometime between 10:30pm on Wednesday and 2:30am on Thursday, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC - Around 5pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Brimstone Hill involving an auxiliary cycle and a car. It appears that the car and the auxiliary cycle were traveling east on South Road, with the car in front of the auxiliary cycle. The car came to a stop; however the auxiliary cycle was unable to stop in time. The rider of the cycle, a 57 year old St. George’s man, was injured as a result. The driver of the car, a 43 year old Paget woman, was not injured.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Burglary - At 2:10 this morning, Police received a report of a burglary at a Leacraft Hill Road, Southampton residence. The complainants stated that around 2am they found an unknown man in their home. When confronted by the couple, the burglar made good his escape. It does not appear that anything was taken. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male of medium build wearing dark coloured clothing and a black cap. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary - Around 9:15pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Tatems Hill, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 2:30pm and 8:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a Sony PlayStation 3 video game system and a PlayStation game. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The complainant stated that sometime between 8:30am and 6:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. It is unknown what, if anything was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Industrial Accident - Around 2:55 this morning, Police received a report of an industrial accident at The Royal Gazette. Details about what occurred are unclear; however, it appears that a 29 year old Southampton man working in the production department seriously injured his right hand. The injury is not believed to be life threatening. He was taken to KEMH by co-workers for treatment. The government health & safety officer was notified.

Bermuda Population Data for DNA Collection Successful

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for a fantastic response to the appeal for 400 volunteers to anonymously provide samples of their DNA to establish Bermuda population data. The project was so successful that the target was reached by 5 pm today (Wednesday, July 1, 2009). No further samples will be collected. The creation of baseline population data that is specific to Bermuda will greatly benefit the future use of DNA in Bermuda. Once again, thank you to everyone who volunteered.

Fire - Around 2:35 this morning, Police attended a report of a fire at a Court Street, Pembroke business. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. No one was injured. Suspicious circumstances are suspected. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
