The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

The Bermuda Police Service in conjunction with the Department of Health is seeking the support of Bermuda residents over the age of 18 years to establish Bermuda Population data to support the future use of DNA in Bermuda.

Injury RTC - Around 1:15pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Paynters Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Harrington Sound Road. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling west on Paynters Road when the rider, a 38 year old Massachusetts man, lost control and collided with a tree. He sustained a laceration to his left leg and abrasions while his passenger, a 35 year old Massachusetts woman, sustained a fractured left leg and abrasions. The visiting American couple was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The rental cycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Disturbance - Around 2:55am on Saturday, Police attended a reported disturbance at Southampton Rangers Sports Club. Details about what occurred remain unclear; however one of the security personnel, a 22 year old Southampton man, received a laceration to his bottom lip. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary - At 4:50pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Rock Garden Lane, Smith’s parish residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainants who stated that sometime between 8:30am and 4:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Press Conference - Recent Firearms Related Incidents

Superintendent Paul Wright, Officer in Charge of the Serious & Organised Crime Division - So far this year there have been several firearms related reports, with 35 reported firearm incidents, 22 of which have been substantiated. However, there is a highly visible significant Police presence on the streets and their presence has been very well received by the law abiding community. In addition, the Serious Crime Unit has been reinforced and is fully committed to fully investigate every incident.
There have been four incidents this week alone that illustrate the range of firearms incident types:
Shooting at Bluebell Lane, Sandy's parish

Around 1:40am Thursday June 25th, Police received a report of a loud noise heard at a residence on Bluebell Lane in Sandy’s parish. Uniform officers attended and confirmed that a gun shot was fired at a residence however no one was injured.

Damage Only RTC - Around 8:25pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Valley Road involving a van and a car. It appears that the car was traveling west on Harbour Road and the van was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The driver of the car, a 50 year old Warwick man and the driver of the van, a 28 year old Smith’s parish man were not injured; however both vehicles received extensive front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC - Around 6:45 this morning, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Zuill’s Park Road. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling east on South Road when the rider, a 45 year old Warwick man, lost control and fell to the ground. The Warwick man sustained facial injuries and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The motorcycle received relatively minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Suspicious Package

Around 3:45pm on Tuesday, Police attended a report of a suspicious package at Freisenbruch-Meyer on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene. As a precautionary measure an area of Front Street from the junction with Court Street to the junction with Queen Street was closed to all traffic for approximately two hours. In addition, the Freisenbruch-Meyer building was evacuated as well as the buildings adjacent to it.
