Weekend Police Activity - Over the Labour Day holiday weekend, police officers arrested 27 people for outstanding warrants. Officers also arrested four people on suspicion of impaired driving and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.

September 3 - Daily Report

Robbery - Around 2am on Sunday, September 2nd police responded to a reported robbery in the Middle Road, Southampton area. It appears that the victim, a 20 year old Southampton man, was riding his motorcycle in the area when he was accosted by two unknown men on another motorcycle. One of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm and took the Southampton man’s motorcycle before both suspects made good their escape via motorcycle. The victim was not injured.

Investigation Ongoing Into Woody’s Incident

All four persons arrested in connection with the Saturday, August 25th incident at Woody’s have been released on police bail pending further inquiries. No weapon has been recovered, and there has been limited assistance from the public so far. However, investigations are ongoing as we continue to build the evidence and process the forensic evidence gleaned.

Update: Reported Serious Three Vehicle Collision in Warwick - Around 10:20pm on Thursday, August 30th police and first responders attended a reported serious three vehicle collision on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Longford Road. It now appears that a jeep and two motorcycles were involved in the collision.

The driver of the jeep, a 59 year old Warwick woman and the rider of one of the motorcycles, a 49 year old Hamilton parish man, have been treated for their injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and released. The rider of the second motorcycle, a 52 year old Southampton man, remains in hospital and at last check was in stable condition.

Reported Serious Three Vehicle Collision in Warwick

Around 10:20pm on Thursday, August 30th police and first responders attended a reported serious three vehicle collision on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Longford Road. A car and two motorcycles were involved in the collision, with the driver of the car and the riders of both motorcycles injured as a result. There were no other injuries reported.

All three victims were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment; however the full extent of their injuries is not known at this time. Inquiries into this collision are ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to contact the main police number on 295-0011.

Unconfirmed Firearm Incident: Woody’s Drive In, 25th August 2012

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service is continuing its investigations into the appearance of a man carrying what appears to be a firearm outside the popular Somerset bar & restaurant known as Woody’s Drive In.

We are taking the unusual step today of releasing CCTV footage of the incident in the hope that we can identify the man. The circumstances of this matter have prompted us to undertake an intense investigation, and we need the assistance of the community.

Misleading Internet Photo Circulating

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a misleading photo which is circulating locally via social media. The photo shows a police car, rumoured to be a Bermuda Police Service vehicle, with two bullet holes in one of its windows. The Bermuda Police Service wishes to clarify that this is a photograph taken off the internet. It shows the car that was being driven by a UK police officer in North East England when he was shot and injured in July 2010. Of the three suspects involved in the shooting, one took his own life before arrest and the other two received life sentences on conviction of attempted murder.

Swimmer in Distress Rescued At Horseshoe Bay - Around 7:45pm on Monday, August 27th police and first responders attended a report of a swimmer in distress at Horseshoe Bay beach in Southampton. It appears that prior to police arrival, members of the public in the area rescued a man in apparent difficulty from the sea and rendered CPR. The victim, believed to be an Indian national in his mid-30s, was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and at last check was in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.

Alleged Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish

Police are currently investigating an alleged firearm incident that took place around 10:15pm on Saturday, August 25th in the vicinity of Woody's Bar & Restaurant in Sandys parish. There were no reported injuries. Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who was at the Sandys establishment on Saturday night or anyone with any information regarding the alleged incident. Anyone who can assist with inquiries into this matter is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the confidential and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
