Internet Fraud Advisory - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to be vigilant regarding internet fraud via online classifieds websites where items can be bought and sold. If the person is not selling locally or if an overseas person requests to purchase items posted on a local online classifieds website be wary, as it may not be legitimate. Residents should not send any monies to unknown persons before receiving the goods.

Burglary Advisory - There have been several reported burglaries throughout the island recently. The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries by making sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious vehicles, activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.

Police & Department of Corrections Sign MOU

Today the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Department of Corrections signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This document simply updates an already established agreement between the two services.

In a low key affair, Acting Commissioner Michael Jackman and Commissioner of Corrections Edward Lamb signed the agreement which will take effect today May 12, 2011.

Update: Injury RTC Berry Hill Road, Paget Area - Around 4:20pm on Wednesday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Crow Lane (north round-a-bout) and Berry Hill Road in Paget involving a car and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the car was negotiating the round-a-bout and the auxiliary cycle was traveling along Crow Lane when the vehicles collided.

Around 4:20pm on Wednesday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Crow Lane (north round-a-bout) and Berry Hill Road in Paget involving a car and an auxiliary cycle. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however the auxiliary cycle rider, a 16 year old boy was injured. He sustained arm & leg injuries which are not considered life threatening.

Police To Participate In Community Day - The Bermuda Police Service Community Action Teams will be taking part in the Y.E.S. (Youth Exploring Self) community day to be held at Whitney Institute Middle School on Saturday, May 14th 2011.

This event organized by Imagine Bermuda promoting “one goal one community” is scheduled to start at 2pm and end at 9pm.

Update – Jason Smith Murder Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the murder of 22 year old Jason Smith, which occurred around 3:50am Sunday, May 1st 2011 in the Overview Hill, Pembroke area.

In particular detectives are interested in speaking with any persons that saw or may have information about a suspicious vehicle, person(s) or activity in the area of Overview Hill, Vaucrossons Crescent and Mount Hill between the hours of 2am and 5am on Sunday, May 1st 2011.

Medical Emergency

Around 11am on Tuesday, Police responded to a reported medical emergency at a St. George’s boatyard. It appears that the victim, a 75 year old Hamilton parish man, was cleaning a boat on dry dock when he fell, sustaining a head injury. The Hamilton parish man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Weekend Police Activity - Over the weekend there were 7 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Police officers also arrested 30 people for outstanding warrants and conducted 10 liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.

Clarification: A D & T Excavation

Following the Magistrates’ Court appearance on Friday, May 6th 2011 by two former employees of Works & Engineering the Bermuda Police Service wishes to clarify the following; neither Mr. Allan Foote of A D & T Excavation nor the company A D & T Excavation is under investigation.
