Good afternoon, I am Inspector Robert Cardwell.  I am here today to speak on behalf of the Marine Police Unit.

As we are now into the summer months, activities in and around the waters in Bermuda will increase. The Bermuda Police Service is committed to its mission of ‘making Bermuda safer’ and ensuring public safety and we will continue to work with our Service partners in the Bermuda Reserve Constabulary and Bermuda Regiment in concert with the Bermuda Water Safety Council through the summer season.

Wednesday St. George’s Community Clinic Series Changes Venue

The second of several Police Community Clinics scheduled for St. George’s will now be held Wednesday, 4th June at the St. George’s Esso Service Station on Rose Hill Street, between 4pm and 6pm.

This is a change of time and venue, as the first community clinic of this series was held May 28th at the St. George’s Town Hall from 9am until 12 noon.

Recently there has been an increase in motorcycles and auxiliary cycles reported stolen from various locations throughout the island.

Members of the public are reminded to ensure that before leaving their motorcycle or auxiliary cycle unattended, it is secured with a good quality motorcycle lock, in addition to the handlebar lock.

Two Vehicle Collision in Southampton

Around 2:45pm on Wednesday, May 28th first responders were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision at the junction of Middle Road and Alton Hill in Southampton.

It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along Middle Road and a car was exiting Alton Hill when the vehicles collided.

BPS Personnel & Float Recognized During Heritage Day Events

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has been active in our community for 135 years and Bermuda Day this year saw the BPS revitalize its participation in established Heritage Day events.

In an impressive result, PC Shannon Lawrence and PC Zoenique Williams respectively won the male and female categories of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial cycle race.

St. George’s Community Clinic Series Starts Tomorrow

The first of several Police Community Clinics scheduled for St. George’s will be held Wednesday, 28th May at the Town Hall from 9am until 12 noon.

It is anticipated that additional St. George’s community clinics will be held during the same time and at the same place each following Wednesday until the end of June.

Fifth Road Fatality of 2014

Police can now confirm the death of 60 year Daniel Bruce Laubacher of Wilmington Delaware who was a guest on board the Norwegian Cruise line. Daniel was traveling east along Cockburn Road in Sandys on a livery cycle, with a pillion passenger, when it appears that he veered into the westbound lane and collided with a boundary wall and a tree along the sidewalk.

The 60 year old man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:15pm Thursday. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to his local support system and his overseas family.

Press Conference Regarding Policing for Heritage Weekend 2014

Ongoing Witness Appeal: Serious Paget Motorcycle Collision

At last check the 29 year old Sandys parish man seriously injured in a single vehicle motorcycle collision along South Road in Paget near the junction with Tribe Road #5 that occurred around 4:45pm Saturday, May 17th was recovering in stable condition at the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses should contact PC Cerepha Bridgeman on the main police telephone number 295-0011.
