Sudden Death of 21 Month Old Child

Around 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 25th police officers responded to an incident that occurred at a Mount Wyndham Drive, Hamilton parish residence.

It appears that a 21 month old child came into contact with a taxi. As a result, that child was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Advisory: Residential Burglaries in the Central Parishes

The Bermuda Police Service is encouraging residents, particularly in the central parishes, to be vigilant after several reported daytime burglaries in Devonshire and Pembroke recently.

In a few instances, the culprit or culprits have smashed a window to gain entry.

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that these burglaries may be linked.

Joint Police & Corrections Team Apprehend Fugitive Ascento

Around 7:55am on Wednesday, September 25th a joint Bermuda Police Service and Department of Corrections team executed a search warrant at a Spring Hill, Warwick residence regarding fugitive Howard Ascento.

Mr. Ascento was located at the premises and subsequently taken into custody. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Two Car Collision in Pembroke Monday Morning

Around 8:30am on Monday, September 23rd police officers attended a reported two car collision on Spanish Point Road in Pembroke near the junction with Clarence Dale Road.

It appears that both cars were being driven along Spanish Point Road when they collided. The driver and passenger of one vehicle as well as the driver of the other vehicle involved all sustained minor injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

Two Arrests Made For Harbouring A Fugitive

At 2:45pm on Monday, September 23rd the joint team of officers from the Department of Corrections and Bermuda Police Service were on patrol looking for fugitive Howard Ascento in the area of Upland Lane in Devonshire. As police approached a residence, the suspect made good his escape in the surrounding area.

As a result, a 26 year old male and a 28 year old female were arrested for harbouring a fugitive and a court appearance is expected in the near future.

Two Motorcycle Collision in Pembroke Sunday Evening

Around 6:30pm on Sunday, September 22nd police and first responders attended a reported two motorcycle collision on North Shore Road in Pembroke near the junction with The Glebe Road.

Both riders, a 30 year old Smith’s parish man and a 71 year old Pembroke man, were injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Inter-Service Golf Tournament to Benefit BHCT

" border="0" />Department of Corrections will hold an Inter-Service Golf Tournament to benefit the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust “Why it Matters” campaign.

At today’s press conference highlighting the event Mr. Philip Butterfield, Chairman of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust, thanked the uniformed services for coming together to support such a worthy cause.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman noted that: “A number of sponsors have come forward so far to support this event, with Auto Solutions donating a car as a prize to any golfer participating in the tournament that scores a hole in one at the 17th hole.”

Town Hall Meeting This Thursday

The Bermuda Police Service will host a Commissioner's Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, September 19th at Victor Scott Primary School starting at 6pm.

This event will give the public an opportunity to hear the current strategies that the police are using to tackle crime as well as ask any questions about policing in our community.

On the panel will be the Commissioner of Police Mr. Michael DeSilva, the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Mike Jackman along with the two Assistant Commissioners, Mr. Paul Wright and Mr. Antoine Daniels.

Search Warrant Executed, Dogs Seized

On Monday, September 16th police officers, assisting Government Dog Wardens, executed a search warrant at a Mount Hill, Pembroke residence. As a result, one adult dog and nine puppies were seized. Inquiries are ongoing.

Escapee Howard Ascento Remains At Large

Police officers continue to search for 25 year old Howard Ascento, who fled Magistrates’ Court on foot Friday, September 6th after being sentenced for several traffic offences.

Reported Missing Juvenile Latori Anderson Located

She has subsequently returned home safely.
