Four Burglary Suspects Arrested in Warwick

Acting Inspector Alex Rollin - This morning at about 11am police officers responded to a burglary in progress in the Rockland Crescent and Rockland Estate area of Warwick. On arrival police officers managed to find three persons, who were arrested. A fourth suspect fled from the house and eventually barricaded himself in a house close by.

Officers responded to that residence. They put on a containment around that residence and eventually with the help of a crisis and hostage negotiator the person was brought out of the house and duly arrested.

Bermuda Reserve Police Welcome Nineteen New Constables

At a 7pm Passing Out Ceremony on Thursday, November 14th held in the Prospect Police Recreation Club hall at Police Headquarters Devonshire, 19 men and women officially became Reserve Police Constables.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva, Deputy Commissioner Mike Jackman, Assistant Commissioner Paul Wright, Acting Commandant Cannoth Roberts, Reserve Superintendent Sandra Beach and Reserve Chief Inspector Arnim Donawa as well as numerous family, friends and colleagues.

Counterfeit Currency Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service has noticed an increase in the number of counterfeit Bermuda $50 notes being reported to police recently.

With the holiday season fast approaching, businesses are asked to remind their staff to be especially vigilant when accepting larger denominations, in particular the old style Bermuda notes.

Often these counterfeit Bermuda $50 notes are being tendered to pay for lower priced items and/or services. Usually the criminals look to target vendors who are busy and may be under pressure to serve quickly, reducing the chances that a fraudulent transaction will be detected.

Weekend Police Activity

Over the weekend, police officers arrested five people on suspicion of impaired driving as the Selective Traffic Enforcement Programme (STEP) continues.

Officers also arrested 16 people for outstanding warrants and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.

Reported Assault

Around 10am on Saturday, November 16th police officers responded to a reported assault in the Camp Road, Warwick area.

It appears that a 24 year old Southampton man was assaulted by another male brandishing a bladed article. The victim was transported by private vehicle to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries and later discharged.

Court Appearances for Remembrance Day Weekend Crimes

Two incidents during the Remembrance Day holiday weekend resulted in the prompt arrest of three suspects, with the accused men appearing in Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday November 14th, to face charges.

The first incident was a reported robbery that occurred around 5:30pm Sunday, November 10th where a 45 year old Paget man was robbed of a quantity of cash and jewellery by a group of men in the North Hamilton area.

Police Actively Seeking Perry Hayward

The Bermuda Police Service is actively attempting to locate Mr. Perry Eugene Hayward.

Mr. Hayward has been recalled to prison by the Parole Board for breaching the conditions of his parole, having previously been convicted for a number of offences involving dishonesty.

We are seeking the assistance of the community to provide any information on the whereabouts of Perry Hayward and to contact police on telephone number 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.

Third Woman Arrested In Connection with Hamilton Parish Assault

Another 22 year old St. George’s woman has been arrested in connection with the reported assault that occurred around 10pm Saturday, November 9th in the Ducks Puddle Drive, Hamilton parish area. She was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The two St. George’s women aged 22 and 25 years old respectively originally arrested in connection with this matter remain in police custody. Their court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Man Arrested In Connection With Reported Robbery

Police officers are investigating a reported robbery that occurred around 5:30pm on Sunday, November 10th. It appears that a 45 year old Paget man was accosted by a group of men in the area of Princess Street and Angle Street in Pembroke.

During the robbery one of the offenders reportedly had what appeared to be a firearm. The assailants apparently took a quantity of cash and jewellery from the Paget man, who sustained minor injuries after being assaulted with motorcycle helmets.

Two Women Arrested After Reported Assault in Hamilton Parish

Around 10pm on Saturday, November 9th police officers attended a reported assault in the Ducks Puddle Drive, Hamilton parish area.

It appears that a dispute occurred between persons at that location. During the incident one of the women involved apparently brandished a bladed article. As a result one of the other women involved sustained a hand injury.

The victim, a 26 year old Warwick woman, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle for treatment. At last check she was in stable condition on a general ward.
