Injury RTC - Around 4:15pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury in the Kings Square/Ordnance Island area of St. George’s. It appears that an auxiliary cycle was traveling through the Kings Square/Ordnance Island area when the unknown rider lost control and collided with a 20 year old St. George’s man on a ‘Segway.’ The auxiliary cycle and unknown rider then struck two parked taxis. The unknown rider fled the scene on foot and made good his escape, despite being chased by a member of the public. The rider of the ‘Segway’ complained of pain to his left foot and a headache.

Burglary - The Bermuda Police Service is aware of several burglaries taking place yesterday (Tuesday) at residences in the St. Michael’s Lane, Paget area as well as the Middle Road, Southampton area. These burglaries appear to be taking place during the day while the occupants are away from their homes. The culprits are taking cash in some instances; in others, nothing appears to be stolen. Inquiries into these incidents are underway. Police continue to advise residents to securely lock their homes when leaving them unattended for any length of time and encourage members of the public to remain vigilant for suspicious individuals or activity in their neighbourhoods.

Update - Sudden Death in Dockyard

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing their investigation to identify a black male whose lifeless body was found floating in the waters off Heritage Wharf Bridge in Dockyard, approximately 100 metres from the new cruise ship terminal around 1:45pm Monday.

E-mail Circulating With Alleged Photo of Crime Scene

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Press Conference Regarding the Murder of Shakeya Deroza

Chief Inspector Antoine Daniels, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service would like to provide an update regarding the status of the Police investigation into the murder of 23 year old Shakeya Deroza, which occurred shortly before 3pm on Friday 10th July 2009. On behalf of the Bermuda Police Service I wish to extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of Shakeya Deroza.

Sudden Death in Dockyard

Around 1:45pm today, Police responded to a report of a man’s lifeless body in the waters off Heritage Wharf Bridge in Dockyard, approximately 100 metres from the new cruise ship terminal. A member of the public initially noticed the man’s body in the water. The victim appears to be a black male. No further information will be released until the deceased’s next of kin has been notified. Foul play is not suspected.

July 13 - Daily Report

Damage Only RTC/Impaired Driving - Around 5:20pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision at the junction of North Shore Road and Berkeley Road in Pembroke involving a car and a van. It appears that the car was traveling east on North Shore Road and the van was traveling north on Berkeley Road when the vehicles collided at the junction. The driver of the car, a 35 year old Pembroke woman, was not injured. The driver of the van, a 49 year old Pembroke man, was also uninjured; however, he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Update - Sudden Death in Sandy's parish

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Shakeya Deroza of Sandy’s parish. The investigation into her death is ongoing and the Bermuda Police Service would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased at this time. It is anticipated that an autopsy will be performed on the body of the deceased by a forensic pathologist as early as Monday, 13th July 2009.

July 12 - Weekend Report

Injury RTC - Around 1:15 this morning, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Front Street and Bermudiana Road in Pembroke involving an auxiliary cycle and a motorcycle. It appears that the auxiliary cycle was traveling west on Front Street and the motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided as the auxiliary cycle attempted to turn on to Bermudiana Road. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 16 year old Pembroke woman, sustained head injuries. The rider of the motorcycle, a 32 year old Paget man, also sustained head injuries. Both were taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment.
