The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 6th - Monday July 13th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 24
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 36
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 17
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 2, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 8, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 17 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Robbery

Around 4am today, Police received a report of a robbery in Dockyard. The victim, a 24 year old Sandy’s parish man, stated that he and another 24 year old Sandy’s parish man were in the Clock Tower area when they were approached by two unknown men. One of the suspects took a quantity of cash, an I-Pod and a gold chain from one of the 24 year old Sandy’s parish men before both suspects made good their escape on a black motorcycle. The victim was not injured, nor was his acquaintance. One suspect is described as a dark skinned male, approximately 6’3” tall of slim build with short hair and facial hair; he was wearing a red shirt and is believed to be in his mid 20s to early 30s. The other suspect is described as a dark skinned male, approximately 5’10” tall; it is believed he is in his early to mid 30s. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
