Man Arrested in Connection with Martin Murder

Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of 24 year old Dekimo Martin in the early hours of Friday, May 28th in Sandys parish. No further information will be released at this time regarding the arrest.
The investigating team is continuing to appeal for witnesses; in particular any area residents or anyone that was in the vicinity of Woodlawn Road, Butterfield Lane, & Peacock Crescent - that may have seen or heard anything related to this incident – however irrelevant it may seem. They encourage anyone with information to come forward. Information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Around 2:40am today, Police and first responders attended a reported collision between a BELCO truck and a motorcycle on Middle Road in Paget in the area of the Paget Shell gas station. As a result the motorcyclist, a 27 year old man, was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he later died of his injuries. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011. This marks the 6th road fatality for 2010.
Murder of Dekimo Martin

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 24 year old Dekimo Martin of Sandys Parish. He was pronounced dead at 1:45am today by an on duty physician at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Police are treating the cause of death as murder due to the nature of the injuries and a forensic pathologist will arrive on island in the coming days to provide a confirmed cause of death. The investigation is being led by Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, who is the officer in charge of the Serious Crime Unit.

Robbery - Around 11pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a robbery. It appears that a taxi picked up two men in the Palmetto Road area of Devonshire and transported them to the Lime House Lane area of Hamilton Parish. The taxi stopped and one man exited the vehicle, only to return a short time later brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect demanded money from the taxi driver, who handed over a quantity of cash. A struggle ensued, with the second suspect exiting the taxi to join in. The taxi driver, a 61 year old Devonshire man, sustained a laceration to the head as a result.
Man Shot & Killed in Sandys parish

Police responded to a report of gunshots being fired in the Peacock Crescent, Sandys parish area at 1:07am today. As a result, a 24 year old Sandys parish man was taken to KEMH where he later died as a result of his injuries. A full investigation has commenced and no further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the independent 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.
Verdict – R vs. Cervio Cox

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Unit - The Bermuda Police Service is pleased to note the verdict of the jury in the matter of R vs. Cervio Cox that recently concluded in the Supreme Court.
The verdict was a testament to the hard work and dedication of Police Officers and Prosecutors that brought the case to a successful conclusion.
This case was noteworthy due to the fact that the prosecution case centered on the fact that Cox was charged under a provision in law (Section 27 of the Criminal Code) to charge:-

The Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit continues to advise members of the public not to respond to unsolicited correspondence (via e-mail, fax, letter or telephone call) which claims to offer an amazing prize or cash reward – only if the ‘lucky winner’ is willing to send an amount of money first to ‘secure the winnings’ or other ‘promising opportunity.’
Also, the public should be wary of seemingly legitimate requests that appear to come from a local banking institution to update their personal or financial account information. Currently fraudulent e-mails of this nature claiming to be from HSBC Bank of Bermuda are being received by local residents. These e-mails should be ignored.

Handbag Snatch - At 10:45am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch. It appears that the complainants, a 54 year old Massachusetts man and a 53 year old Massachusetts woman who are visitors to the island, were riding a rental cycle traveling west on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Middle Road when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode up alongside them and took a beach bag out of the rental cycle’s basket before riding off. The visitors were not injured. The beach bag contained two beach towels and sunscreen. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark coloured clothing and a black helmet.

The Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit is once again receiving complaints from members of the public in relation to a company called ‘The Island Yellow Pages’. Recently local residents have been contacted by a representative of the Island Yellow Pages to purchase advertising space - believing that they were purchasing advertisement space in the Bermuda Yellow Pages.
However, the Island Yellow Pages are not affiliated with the Bermuda Yellow Pages in any way. They are based in the U.S. Virgin Islands and accordingly are not answerable to the laws of Bermuda.

Update: Injury RTC - At 8:25pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Devonshire near the junction with Parsons Lane involving a motorcycle and a truck. It appears that the vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Middle Road when they collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 30 year old Paget woman, sustained serious head and chest injuries. She was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where she is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. The truck driver, a 57 year old St. George’s man, was not injured.
