Injury RTC - Around 3:15am on Wednesday, Police & first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke near the junction with Turnstile Lane. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Pitts Bay Road when the rider, a 31 year old Pembroke man, lost control. As a result the motorcycle collided with a wall and a pole. The Pembroke man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. His injury is not believed to be life threatening. The motorcycle received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Police Week 2010 - Police Ball & Awards

Police Week 2010 came to a conclusion on Saturday, October 9th with the Police Ball held at the Fairmont Southampton Resort. The event was well attended by Police officers as well as invited guests from the Bermuda Regiment, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, Department of Corrections, DPPs office, Department of Immigration and the Service’s community partners.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Update: Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 31 year old Earlston Kavon Bailey Smith. Around 4am on Monday, Police & first responders attended the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Crow Lane and Corkscrew Hill in Pembroke. As a result they came upon a 31 year old Southampton man in a non-responsive state a few feet away from his motorcycle which was extensively damaged. He was later pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician at 4:41am. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

Fatal RTC

Around 4am on Monday, first responders were called out to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Crow Lane and Corkscrew Hill in Pembroke. As a result they came upon a 31 year old Southampton man in a non-responsive state a few feet away from his motorcycle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. This marks the 10th fatal road traffic collision of 2010.

October 10 - Weekend Report

Robbery - Around 7am on Saturday, Police received a report of a robbery. It appears that around 6:45am that day the complainant, a 33 year old Pembroke man, was walking in the area of St. John’s Church graveyard in Pembroke when he was accosted by an unknown man brandishing a bladed article. The suspect took a quantity of cash from the complainant before running towards Marsh Folly Road and escaping on a black motorcycle in the Pembroke Marsh area. The Pembroke man was not injured. The suspect is described as approximately 5’11” tall of stocky build wearing all black clothing. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Response to Air Quality Concerns at Police Stations

Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Wright – A court order was recently issued to allow two mould consultants hired by a local law firm to conduct tests at Hamilton and Somerset Police Stations in relation to a civil action brought against the Bermuda Government. Media reports today have highlighted the opinion of those consultants that the Hamilton Police Station is "so contaminated with mould that it is uninhabitable."

Witness Appeal: Fatal RTC - The investigation into the fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of 22 year old Adam Goodwin is ongoing. Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the incident that occurred around 4:10am on Sunday, October 3rd on South Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with St. Mark’s Road. In particular, investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who may know of Mr. Goodwin’s whereabouts prior to the collision. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact PC David Ward on 295-0011.

Injury RTC

Around 3:45pm on Thursday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Devonshire near Barkers Hill involving a car and a motorcycle. Details are unclear at this time; however it appears that the motorcyclist and the car driver were injured. Both men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Traffic is being diverted away from the scene.

Commissioner Addresses Arrest of Keishon Smith

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva – Due to a series of misrepresentations being reported in the media regarding the arrest of Mr. Keishon Smith, I wish to provide clarity on what actually happened. Mr. Smith was arrested by police on the evening of 30th September on an Apprehension Warrant.
