Serious Injury RTC - At 3:55am on Thursday, Police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Crow Lane in Pembroke near the junction with Corkscrew Hill. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Crow Lane when the rider, a 24 year old Warwick woman, lost control. She was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check she was in the Intensive Care Unit. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Mervin Homer on 295-0011.
The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 60 year old Gladwin Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was pronounced dead at 11am on Tuesday, December 14th 2010 in the Intensive Care Unit of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. He succumbed to injuries sustained in a serious road traffic collision that occurred around 10:20am Friday, December 10th on Parsons Road in Pembroke when the pedal cycle he was riding was in collision with a motorcycle ridden by a 59 year old Devonshire woman.
Robbery - Around 10pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a robbery at a Southampton guest property. It appears that around 9:50pm that day two unknown men attended the premises and went to the front desk area where they demanded money, with one of the men brandishing a blunt object. Both men subsequently left the property on foot with a quantity of cash. No one was injured. The suspects are described as two tall back men of medium build. An active investigation into this incident is underway.
Around 8:20am on Tuesday, Police responded to a report of suspicious activity onboard a school bus. Whilst enroute to the school, the bus driver allegedly smelled marijuana and stopped the bus at the nearest Police premises. Police officers arrived on scene a short time later and were alerted to the suspected drug use. As a result, the officers searched the bus with the assistance of a Police K9 unit and a quantity of suspected controlled drug was seized. Three students were subsequently arrested; two on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug and one for using offensive words. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Burglary - Around 6:20am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at the East Broadway Shell Service Station in Pembroke. It appears that sometime between 10pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday, an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole a quantity of cigarettes. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Around 8:40pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a burglary at Miles Market in Pembroke. It appears that around 8:30pm that day an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises and stole a quantity of bottled alcoholic beverages. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Boat Fire - Around 11am on Saturday, Police including Police vessel Rescue 1 with officers from the Marine Unit as well as Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel responded to a report of a boat on fire in Mullet Bay, St. George’s. The fire was extinguished by firefighters at the scene. The boat was extensively damaged; however no one was injured. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

Mr. Simons suffered fatal injuries after the motorcycle he was riding was in collision with a taxi on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Chapel Road around 1:45am on Saturday. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Simons. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Around 10:20am on Friday, Police and first responders attended a reported serious road traffic collision resulting in injury on Parsons Road in Pembroke involving a motorcycle and a pedal cycle. Details about the collision remain unclear; however the pedal cyclist, a 60 year old man as well as the motorcycle rider, a 59 year old Devonshire woman were injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.
Around 1:45am on Saturday, Police and first responders attended a reported serious road traffic collision on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Chapel Road involving a taxi and a motorcycle. It appears that the taxi was exiting Newstead hotel and the motorcycle was traveling along Harbour Road when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 39 year old Sandys parish man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance; however he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
