Joint Press Conference: Christmas Crime Prevention Advisory

Chief Inspector Hashim Estwick – The Bermuda Police Service wants everyone to have a secure and happy holiday season. As we prepare ourselves for the joy of giving and exchanging gifts, let us not forget that criminals are also anxiously awaiting this time of year – as people tend to get distracted and let their guard down. As a result, they become vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime.

Impaired Driver - Around 5:10am on Thursday December 8th, police officers were on mobile patrol along Kindley Field Road, St. George’s when they noticed a car that was driving in an erratic manner. The car was caused to stop by police and a 27 year old St. George’s man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving as a result. He subsequently failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

The car was caused to stop by police and a 27 year old Pembroke woman was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving as a result. She subsequently failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Missing Juvenile: Leshun Wolffe

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Leshun Wolffe. The teenager was last seen on Thursday, December 1st and is described as dark skinned, 5’9” tall of slim build with a short haircut. He reportedly walks with a limp and is known to frequent the Sandys parish area, in particular Somerset and Dockyard.

Burglary Advisory - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. On Monday December 5th there were six burglaries reported, the majority of which took place during the day. The parishes that were affected include: Hamilton parish, Southampton, Warwick, Pembroke and Devonshire, with two of the burglaries occurring in the Cloverdale Road, Devonshire area. Overall a quantity of electronics, jewelry, cash and alcohol was taken. The public is reminded to make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended.

Update: Ninth Road Fatality For 2011

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Dion Richardson of Warwick. It appears that sometime prior to 1:55am Monday, December 5th Mr. Richardson was riding a motorcycle along North Shore Road in Devonshire when a collision occurred with the round-a-bout at the junction of Barkers Hill and Palmetto Road. Mr. Richardson was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance in an unresponsive state and subsequently pronounced dead at 2:26am by an on call physician.

Inquiries Continue Regarding Frog Lane Collision - A 68 year old Smith’s parish woman has been released on police bail pending further inquiries into a collision involving a car and a 4 year old girl that took place around 6pm on Thursday December 1st. Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who may have been in the Frog Lane, Devonshire area around the time of the incident to contact PC Melesia Iris on 295-0011.

Ninth Road Fatality For 2011

Around 1:55am on Monday, December 5th police and first responders attended a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision in the North Shore Road, Barkers Hill Devonshire area. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however the victim, a 38 year old Hamilton parish man, succumbed to injuries he sustained after the motorcycle he was riding apparently collided with the round-a-bout. No further information will be given until the next of kin have been notified.

Centre for Justice Forum: Stop & Search Powers

On Wednesday, November 30th 2011 the Centre for Justice held a forum on police stop & search powers at St. Paul's Centennial Hall in Pembroke from 6 - 8pm. Panelists that discussed the topic were: the Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief, Acting Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman, lawyers Mr. Peter Martin and Mr. Larry Mussenden, CURB (Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda) Chairman Mr. Cordell Riley and Mr. Carlton Simmons from Youth on the Move. Driver Arrested After Car Collides With 4 Year Old Girl

A 68 year old Smith’s parish woman has been arrested after the car she was driving collided with a pedestrian in the Frog Lane, Devonshire area around 6pm on Thursday December 1st. In addition, the vehicle involved has been impounded by police.

The victim, a four year old Southampton girl was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for relatively minor injuries and later released. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.
