Impaired Drivers - Around 2am on Sunday May 20th, police on mobile patrol along Pender Road in Sandys noticed a car that was travelling erratically. Officers pursued the vehicle and caused it to stop along Malabar Road near the junction with Heydon Road. They approached the driver, a 28 year old Sandys man, who appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He later failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody as a result. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

May 20 - Weekend Report

Robbery - Around 12:45am on Saturday, May 19th police attended a reported robbery in the Benny’s Bay Road, Sandys parish area. It appears that two unknown men brandishing bladed articles accosted a 52 year old Sandys parish woman and a 23 year old Sandys parish man. The suspects took a wallet containing personal items as well as a BlackBerry cellular phone. No one was injured during the incident; however prior to fleeing on foot, the suspects also damaged the 52 year old woman’s car.

Collision - Around 10:50pm on Thursday May 17th, police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle collision on Somerset Road in Sandys near the junction with Scaur Lane involving a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was travelling along Somerset Road when it lost control and fell to the ground. The rider, a 37 year old Sandys man was injured and conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Recruit Foundation Course #74 Underway

15 new Bermuda Police Service recruits are currently undergoing an intensive 12 week training course in preparation to become police officers. Recruit Foundation Course #74 commenced on Monday May 7th, 2012 with the recruits being sworn in as Police Constables on Thursday May 10th, 2012. They are now on their second week of the 12 week programme [click photo to enlarge].

Update: Man Found Bound & Wrapped in Sheet

A thorough investigation has been conducted into the reported incident that occurred around 1:40am Saturday, 21st April 2012 where police officers proactively patrolling discovered a 50 year old man, bound by his hands and feet and wrapped in a sheet, left on a sidewalk in the North Shore Road, East Park Lane Pembroke area. At the time, three individuals were seen fleeing the scene. The 50 year old man was not injured.

Detectives collected various items for forensic examination and subsequently identified all of the individuals involved.

May 16 - Daily Report

Collision - Around 10:45am on Wednesday May 16th, police and first responders attended a reported collision on Malabar Road in Sandys between a livery cycle and a bus. It appears that the vehicles were travelling along Malabar Road when the livery cycle collided with a fence, injuring both the rider and pillion passenger. After striking the fence, the reportedly unmanned livery cycle collided with the bus. The rider of the livery cycle, a 63 year old male American visitor and his pillion passenger; a 57 year old female American visitor were injured. However, their injuries are not believed to be serious.

Police & Fire Service Make Surprise Appearance at Wedding

The Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service are used to working together to achieve a favourable outcome - and they did just that recently when they made a special appearance at the wedding of Rebecca Beisel and Jason Stoddard at the Elbow Beach Resort on Wednesday, May 9th 2012 [pictured, click photo to enlarge].

Impaired Driver - Around 12:45am on Tuesday May 15th, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the area of Crow Lane in Pembroke involving a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was travelling along Crow Lane when it collided with a sidewalk. On arrival, officers approached the rider, a 37 year old Pembroke man who appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He later failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody as a result. There were no reported injuries. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Impaired Drivers - Around 2:30am on Monday May 14th, police were on mobile patrol on Cavendish Road in Pembroke when they noticed a motorcycle that was travelling erratically. Officers stopped the vehicle and approached the rider, a 39 year old Paget man, who appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He later failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody as a result. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Advisory: Circulating Objectionable Electronic Messages - The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a video being circulated locally via BlackBerry and social media. The footage is believed to have originated overseas and apparently shows the physical abuse of a child by an adult. While there is no way to control the distribution of information through various technological means, we continue to discourage the dissemination of similar electronic messages by the public. Anyone with any information regarding incidents of abuse should contact the Vulnerable Persons Unit directly on 247-1678.
