Arrests Made Following Disturbance - Around 3:30pm on Sunday, November 4th police officers responded to a reported disturbance at St. David’s Cricket Club. One male was injured and is being treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a result. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. Several arrests have been made in connection with this incident and inquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the main police number on 295-0011.

Halloween Policing Recap - During Wednesday, October 31st police officers including Bermuda Reserve Police personnel proactively patrolled the island, particularly throughout the afternoon and into the night, responding to approximately 20 reports of objects being thrown - with eggs apparently being thrown in the majority of reported incidents.

However, there were no significant occurrences of anti-social behavior reported during the day or overnight. As a result, the Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their cooperation during Halloween.

Commissioner Addresses Recent Firearm Incidents

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - The Bermuda Police Service has not received any reports of shipments of illegal ammunition or any information about planned retaliations between rival gangs. I encourage anyone with genuine information about either of these scenarios to contact the police directly, or to make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers on 800-8477. Crime Stoppers will reward up to $100,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction, or a seizure of a firearm.

Advisory: Online Job Scams

Once again the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.

In particular, local residents are advised to be wary of a scam e-mail currently circulating with the heading:

“BERMUDA JOB OFFER . BMD 600 & BMD 4,500 / MONTH
GENERAL EMPLOYMENT OFFER (2012).”

Visible & Robust Policing for Halloween [October 25, 2012]

Vehicle Fire - Around 12:45am on Tuesday, October 30th police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a reported vehicle fire on Crown Hill Lane in Devonshire where a motorcycle was ablaze outside a residence. However, the fire was extinguished by occupants of the residence prior to the arrival of the emergency services. No one was injured and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Police Team Win Bermuda Corporate Games Medallist Award

The 2012 Bermuda Corporate Games were held from October 25th to October 28th for the first time in the Atlantic region. The Bermuda Police Service team was represented in a variety of sports and ultimately won the most medals out of the competing organisations. Well done to all who were a part of the Bermuda Police Service team!

Hurricane Sandy Recap - There were no reported injuries due to the passing of Hurricane Sandy. However, there was reported property damage to a building in the Mangrove Bay Road, Sandys parish area with one car extensively damaged along Mangrove Bay Road, apparently as a result of debris from the damaged building. Reportedly some boats in the Mangrove Bay area were also affected by the inclement weather.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Sandys Parish - Around 1:30am on Saturday, October 27th police officers responded to reports of gun shots in the Greenfield Lane, Long Bay Lane Sandys parish area. Forensic evidence found at the scene confirmed that a firearm was discharged in that area; however there were no reported injuries.

The area was secured and an active investigation has commenced into this confirmed firearm incident.

Investigation Ongoing Into Sandys Parish Firearm Incident

Inquiries are ongoing into the confirmed firearm incident that occurred in the Somerset Road, Sandys parish area around 12:15am on Thursday, October 25th. Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of Somerset Bridge or Lantana around midnight on Thursday.

Anyone that may have seen persons acting suspiciously in the area prior to this confirmed firearm incident is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
