May 17 - Weekend Report

Disturbance - Around 12:45am on Saturday, Police attended a reported disturbance at Captain’s Lounge on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers observed the victim, a 27 year old Sandy’s parish man, at the entrance to the premises. It appears that the Sandy’s parish man was attacked by several unknown men inside the bar. The victim was taken to KEMH via ambulance, treated for head/facial injuries and released. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Burglary - Around 10:40pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a burglary at a North Cote West, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:30am and 10:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his apartment while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary - Around 7:45pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Cottage Hill Lane, Hamilton parish residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8:30am and 4pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Local Company to Provide 24 Hour CCTV Coverage

The Bermuda Police Service would like to inform the public that 24 hour monitoring of CCTV has been out sourced to a local company with effect from Friday 1st May, 2009, on a 3 month trial basis with a view to providing a long term solution.

This arrangement will allow for the dedicated monitoring of CCTV by trained staff so that the CCTV system can be used to its full capacity. This will allow the BPS to utilize CCTV more effectively to prevent, detect and solve crime; we will enhance our capability to keep the island safe.

Fire - Around 1am today, Police received a report of a fire on Middle Road in Paget outside of Eve’s Cycles. The Bermuda Fire Service also attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. It appears that the fire caused minor damage to the eastern section of the building and extensive damage to several motorcycles parked outside; however no one was injured. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive/ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Injury RTC - Around 4:20pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Green Bay Road involving two cars. It appears that a red Nissan March was traveling east on North Shore Road and a silver Suzuki Swift was traveling in the opposite direction when they collided. The driver of the eastbound car, a 43 year old Hamilton parish man, was not injured. The three other occupants of that vehicle (the driver’s wife and two young children) were also not injured. The driver of the westbound car, a 53 year old Southampton woman, complained of pain to her chest and head.

May 10 - Weekend Report

Injury RTC - Around 11:55pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling west on South Road (near Coral Beach) when the rider, a 25 year old Warwick man (Australian national), lost control and collided with a wall. The victim sustained head injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit; his injuries are considered serious but are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC - At 6:20pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Idlewood Drive involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that the car was traveling east on North Shore Road and the motorcycle was exiting a nearby driveway when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 50 year old Devonshire man, sustained a swollen left leg and complained of pain to his back. The driver of the car, a 50 year old Hamilton parish woman, was not injured. The motorcycle received extensive front end damage while the car received moderate front end damage.

May 7 - Daily Report

Injury RTC - Around 9:15pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and South Road in Southampton involving a car and a taxi. It appears that the car was traveling west on Middle Road and the taxi was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The driver of the car, a 30 year old Southampton man, was not injured. The driver of the taxi, a 68 year old Warwick man, sustained bruising to his chest. There were three passengers in the taxi at the time and it appears that two of them were injured. However, all three passengers were taken to KEMH via ambulance for assessment.
