Injury RTC in Southampton

Around 12:30pm today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Rosehill Road. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene. It appears that a car was traveling west on Middle Road while a car and a motorcycle were traveling in the opposite direction when the motorcycle collided with both cars. At 9:45am today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Langton Hill in Pembroke involving a van and a truck. The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene. It appears that the van was traveling north on Langton Hill and the truck was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The driver of the van, a 42 year old Southampton man, reportedly suffered a dislocated hip. He had to be extracted from his vehicle by Fire & Rescue Service personnel using specialized equipment and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the truck, a 41 year old Hamilton parish man, was not injured.

Damage Only RTC - At 5:50pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision at the junction of South Road and Zuill’s Park Road in Smith’s parish involving two cars. It appears that a sinkhole developed in the eastbound lane of South Road. As a result the two cars, both traveling east on South Road at the time, received minor damage. There were no reported injuries. Works & Engineering personnel erected temporary traffic lights in the area to assist with traffic flow as well as lights and warning cones around the sinkhole itself.

More offenders are being brought to justice; more information is forthcoming from the public; the community’s confidence in its police service is strengthening and more synergy is developing across Government, public and private sectors engaged in tackling the violence. The increased work of the Bermuda Police Service is, by its very nature, resource intensive and I have indicated since December that we cannot maintain this level of response without a price.
Suspected Stolen Jewelry Recovered

The St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit has recovered various items of suspected stolen jewelry. In particular, any person that can identify this ring (with the red stone) is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Jason Smith at Southside Police Station on 293-2222. The ring bears the following inscriptions - ‘Kingsway Regional High School’ ‘1972’ ‘The Dragon’ and the initials ‘G.D.J.’

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Rumours Regarding Identity of Puckerin Murderer False

The Bermuda Police Service understands that the name of an individual is being circulated in the community via cellular phone messages, with the messages claiming that individual is responsible for the murder of Perry Puckerin. However, the individual in question was in Police custody at the time Mr. Puckerin was fatally shot. Therefore he cannot be the murderer.

and extends sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Puckerin. Mr. Puckerin was shot down in the prime of his life at 34 years old.
Winter Marine Advisory

This weekend was a particularly busy one for the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit, which received numerous calls of vessels either taking on water or breaking their moorings due to the stormy weather over the last few days. One incident of note involved a 60ft. sailing vessel which broke its moorings in Ely’s Harbour and drifted ashore. A Police Marine Unit vessel attended; was able to free the sailboat and re-secure it to another nearby mooring.
