Advisory Regarding a Dangerous Practise on Bermuda's Roads

The Bermuda Police Service, (BPS), has been made aware of a dangerous practise in which groups of individuals, mainly young males perform wheelies on pedal cycles as well as motorcycles, while riding against the flow of traffic, particularly on main roads.
Such behaviour could result in serious injury, or worse. Not to mention property damage.
The Bermuda Police encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of this activity and advise them against participating in it.

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley – Today is International Women’s Day, a key opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of women across the world and the contributions they've made to social, economic, cultural and political advancements.
The theme for this year’s International Women's Day is #ChooseToChallenge, highlighting that a “challenged world is an alert world, and from challenge comes change”.
Whilst International Women’s day is a celebration I also consider it should be a reminder to shine a light on women, young and old, that are prevented from leading a life that is safe but instead find themselves vulnerable from issues of abuse or exploitation.

Female Motorcyclist Hurt in Reported Serious Road Traffic Collision [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect involved in a hit and run road traffic collision which occurred in Pembroke Parish just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday 7th March, 2021.
Police received several 911 calls reporting that a female who had sustained multiple injuries, was found lying on the roadway near to a motorcycle at the junction of Bishop Spencer and Palmetto Roads around that time. She was reportedly conscious but unable to stand.
Police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene and on arrival discovered the woman had sustained facial, neck and back injuries and was going in and out of consciousness.
COVID-19 Regulations Breach in Paget & Reported Assault of Two RBR Soldiers in the City of Hamilton

COVID Regulations Breach
Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5th, 2021, police attended the Horticultural Hall - Botanical Gardens, Paget, after receiving several anonymous calls reporting that a large party was taking place there with more than twenty persons, the maximum number allowed under the current COVID-19 regulations, in attendance.
Based on the number of persons at the location and the reported breaches, several police units were dispatched to assist.
The organiser of the event could not be located among the crowd and no one was willing to assist police with their inquiries. However, the details of several vehicles which began leaving the scene as police arrived, were recorded.
Collision Involving Trainee Police Motorcyclist in Warwick

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday 3rd March, 2021, Police attended a two vehicle road traffic collision on Middle Road, Warwick, opposite Warwick Lanes.
A male motorcyclist was travelling east along Middle Road, Warwick. Upon hearing the sirens from police cycles on driver training, headed in the same direction, the motorcyclist, who was attempting to make a right turn into the Warwick Esso Gas Station, instead pulled his vehicle to the left going towards a bus layby.
One of the police bikes collided with the motorcyclist resulting in both riders suffering leg injuries, which were not considered serious.
Both the motorcyclist and the police officer received treatment for their injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and were discharged.
Investigation Into Smith's Parish House Party That Breached COVID-19 Regulations

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of videos being circulated on social media, indicating non-compliance with COVID-19 regulations at a house party in Smith’s Parish.
The BPS is now investigating to establish individuals involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call 211 or, the main police number, 295-0011.
We wish to once again remind the public, current COVID-19 regulations stipulate, gatherings are restricted to no more than twenty-five people, masks must be worn during such gatherings and social distancing must be observed.
Vandalism of Drain Grates in the City of Hamilton

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying whomever is responsible for the dislodging of a number of drain grates throughout the City of Hamilton.
The incident occurred sometime during the late night hours of Monday 1st March, 2021 and the early hours of Tuesday March 2nd, 2021.
This act of vandalism could have resulted in serious injury to persons or damage to vehicles.
Officers are currently reviewing CCTV images from the areas where the grates were dislodged, with the aim of obtaining evidence that could lead to the identification of any suspects.
Man in Court Charged With Murder of Chavelle Dillon Burgess

Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley - "In May 2020 a report was made to the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) regarding the disappearance of Ms. Chavelle Dillon Burgess. On receipt of this information the BPS commenced a search for Chavelle, the complexity and extent of which has never been seen before in Bermuda.
The BPS concluded that Chavelle had been unlawfully killed and a murder investigation led by the BPS’ Serious Crime Unit has continued for the past 10 months.
The BPS has worked closely with the office of the Director for Public Prosecutions on this investigation. Following a review of evidence in this case Mr. Kamal Worrell was charged with the murder of Chavelle and appeared in Magistrates' Court this morning.
Black History Month Trailblazer: Former Sergeant Gregory McArthur "Porky" Grimes

Today marks the end of our Black History Month Trailblazer series. We hope you enjoyed getting know who we are and we would like to thank you all 
for your likes, shares and kind remarks on social media for our past and present trailblazers.
There are many more officers and staff who have achieved great things during their careers with the BPS, however there is no way we can cover them all in one month. With that said, we will continue to showcase our BPS trailblazers throughout the year.
We will end our BPS Black History Month Trailblazer series with none other than, the late Sergeant Gregory Grimes who tragically lost his life while on duty in December 2016.
Our final Black History Month Trailblazer: Sergeant Gregory McArthur “Porky” Grimes
On 14 December 2016, the Bermuda Police Service and the community were deeply saddened to hear the tragic news that our good friend and colleague Sergeant Gregory Grimes passed away suddenly whilst on duty.
Gregory was an exceptionally popular policeman who always took the time to mentor younger police officers. We know that many of our present and recently retired members will have fond memories of working with Greg, who in 2009 and 2011, was chosen as “Police Officer of the Year and Sergeant of the Year.”
