Female Motorcyclist Hurt in Reported Serious Road Traffic Collision [Updated]

The Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect involved in a hit and run road traffic collision which occurred in Pembroke Parish just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday 7th March, 2021.

Police received several 911 calls reporting that a female who had sustained multiple injuries, was found lying on the roadway near to a motorcycle at the junction of Bishop Spencer and Palmetto Roads around that time.  She was reportedly conscious but unable to stand.

Police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene and on arrival discovered the woman had sustained facial, neck and back injuries and was going in and out of consciousness.

Reports are the victim was riding a black Yamaha Mio motorcycle west along Palmetto Road, when as she approached the junction with Bishop Spencer Road, she was struck by an unknown silver Suzuki Swift motorcar, that was attempting to turn right onto Palmetto Road.

The driver is said to have then pulled into the bus layby just east of the junction on Palmetto Road and briefly exited the vehicle before leaving the scene.

The 31-year-old victim was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to her injuries, which were deemed serious but non-life-threatening.

The roadway was closed off for a period as Traffic Collision Investigators and officers from the Forensics Support Unit processed the scene.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those members of the public who came to the assistance of the victim and also those who have so far provided information to assist with the investigation into this matter.

Update: Tuesday, March 9th - Thanks to the assistance of the public, a suspect has been arrested in connection with the hit and run incident which occurred at the junction of Bishop Spencer Lane and Palmetto Road, Pembroke, on Sunday 7th March, 2021.
