Shooting on Rambling Lane

Around 11:50pm on Friday, March 25th 2011 Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident on Rambling Lane in Pembroke. Details are unclear at this time; however, it appears that a 16 year old male was shot and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where his condition at this point is unknown. Police are appealing for anyone that may have any information about this incident or may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Rambling Lane, Parsons Road, Curving Avenue Pembroke area to please contact Police on 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Around 10:20pm on Friday, March 25th 2011 Police responded to a confirmed firearm incident at the junction of Cedar Avenue & Laffan Street in Pembroke. Details are unclear at this time; however there have been no reported injuries. An active investigation into this incident is underway. Update: Officer Injured After Pursuit - The officer injured following a pursuit in the North Hamilton area around 3:30am on Thursday, March 24th is recovering on a general ward at the hospital. Police & Students Tackle Graffiti In Warwick

Around 2pm today officers from the Western (Parishes) Community Action Team and students from T. N. Tatem Middle School selected two bus passenger shelters on Middle Road in Warwick to clean up after graffiti appeared on them recently. The students and PC Donville Yarde alongside PC Valerius Jean Louis painted over the graffiti in the bus passenger shelters as well as graffiti on a nearby wall in the vicinity of the Belmont Hills Golf Resort & Spa. They were supervised by Sergeant Michelle Simons.

Officer Injured After Pursuit - Around 3:30am on Thursday, March 24th 2011 Police were on mobile patrol along Court Street in Pembroke when they encountered a motorcycle at the junction with Dundonald Street. The officers attempted to stop the motorcycle to speak with the rider; however despite the use of the Police vehicle’s emergency equipment the motorcyclist failed to stop. A brief vehicle and foot pursuit took place before the motorcycle rider was intercepted outside a Middletown Lane residence. At that location the suspect apparently pushed one of the officers causing him to fall before fleeing the scene.

Police & Students Clean Up Parsons Bay

Between 1:30pm and 3pm today officers from the Western (Parishes) Community Action Team as well as teachers/students from the Lagoon Park Pre-School and Bermuda High School for Girls cleaned up the Parsons Bay, Sandys parish area and placed blue bird boxes. Members of the West End Development Corporation also assisted in hauling away some of the larger debris. Road Safety Advisory - The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Court of Appeal Judgment Response

Acting Commissioner of Police Mike Jackman – On Monday, March 21st 2011 the Bermuda Police Service received the judgment handed down by the Court of Appeal in relation to the five police officers who had sought legal remedies in relation to not being offered further terms of service.

Extradition of Jahmel Blakeney

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that following an exhaustive legal process in the United States, Mr. Jahmel Glen Blakeney will be extradited to Bermuda in the near future to face attempted murder charges relating to the November 2009 shootings of two persons at the Southside Cinema. Mr. Blakeney had been arrested in the early hours following the shooting and was placed on Police bail. He subsequently left the Island whilst on Police bail and did not return to Bermuda.
