Around 9:20am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a road traffic collision resulting in injury on Granaway Lane in Southampton involving a van and a pedestrian. It appears that around 7:25am the pedestrian, an 11 year old Southampton boy, was walking along Granaway Lane when a white van collided with him, knocking the boy to the ground. The van did not stop. The victim sustained a swollen & bruised left knee, scratches to his right leg and a swollen right eye. The white van is described as having tinted windows and apparently leaves the Granaway Lane area around 7:30am each morning. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact PC Kendy Swainson at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.

Road Traffic Death of Moses Jacobs

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Moses Jacobs of Pembroke who died as a result of injuries received in a collision that took place around 5:40am Saturday on Middle Road in Southampton in the area of Jew’s Bay. He was taken to KEMH where he was pronounced dead at 2:25pm Monday. The Bermuda Police Service would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The death of Moses Jacobs marks the 3rd road traffic fatality for 2009.

Injury RTC/Impaired Driving - At 1:30am on Saturday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Harbour Road in Paget. It appears that a car was traveling west on Harbour Road when the driver, a 29 year old Southampton man, lost control and collided with the sidewalk causing the vehicle to overturn. The Southampton man sustained abrasions to his left hand; however he declined medical attention. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained after failing the alco-analyser test. The car received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Vehicle Fire - At 4:50am on Sunday, Police attended a report of vehicles on fire on York Street in St. George’s. The Bermuda Fire Service also attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which engulfed two cars parked outside of Robertson’s Drug Store. Both vehicles were destroyed by the flames. An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire; arson has not been ruled out. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Sudden Death

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 46 year old Kenneth Noel DeSilva of St. George’s on the evening of Friday, March 13th 2009. An investigation into the circumstances of Mr. DeSilva’s death is ongoing and Police have been in regular contact with his family during this process. A forensic pathologist will travel to Bermuda to conduct an autopsy in the near future. Any person who has any information regarding the death of Mr. DeSilva is encouraged to contact Police on 299-4315.
