Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, March 2nd – Monday, March 9th 2009 there were:

* Reported Injury Collisions = 14
* Reported Damage Only Collisions = 31
* Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
* Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 21
* Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 2, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 9, Paget = 2, Warwick = 2 , Southampton = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 2.

Road Traffic Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the motoring public that there are traffic lights erected on Harbour Road, Paget in the Newstead area due to ongoing construction. As a result, motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes if possible, as some delays are expected during the afternoon/evening rush hour.

Injury RTC - Around 2:25pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Lukes Pond Road. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling east on Middle Road when the rider, a 39 year old Florida man, lost control and rode over an embankment. The visitor sustained back injuries and a suspected broken left ankle. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The rental cycle received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

March 8 - Weekend Report

Injury RTC - Around 11:05pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Stadium Lane in Warwick involving an auxiliary cycle and a car. It appears that the auxiliary cycle was traveling west on Middle Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the cycle, a 17 year old Pembroke woman, sustained a broken right ankle as well as cuts to her hands and legs. She was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 20 year old Sandy’s parish man, was not injured.

Around 11:05pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Stadium Lane in Warwick involving an auxiliary cycle and a car. It appears that the auxiliary cycle was traveling west on Middle Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the cycle, a 17 year old Pembroke woman, sustained a broken right ankle as well as cuts to her hands and legs. She was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 20 year old Sandy’s parish man, was not injured. The car received front end damage while the auxiliary cycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary

March 6 - Daily Report

Burglary - Around 5:10pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:30am and 5pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 3:35pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Fritholme Gardens, Paget residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8:45am and 3:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her apartment while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry.
