In recent weeks, the Bermuda Customs Department, in close partnership with the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), successfully interdicted three foreign nationals attempting to smuggle significant quantities of controlled drugs into Bermuda. These interdictions occurred at both the L.F. Wade International Airport and the cruise ship berth in Dockyard.

Preliminary analysis, has confirmed the presence of cocaine, diamorphine (commonly known as heroin) and cannabis resin. The processing of the drugs by the government analyst is ongoing, and the BPS anticipates the estimated street value will be several million dollars.

The BPS is deeply concerned about the continued efforts by individuals to bring harmful substances into our community. The types and quantities of drugs seized in these recent attempts had the potential to cause significant harm to individuals and pose a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of our society.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Nidol Barker of the Specialist Investigations Department stated, “These interdictions are the result of ongoing, targeted efforts by law enforcement to detect and deter the trafficking of illicit drugs. The BPS will continue to work hand-in-hand with our colleagues at Customs to safeguard Bermuda’s borders from the importation of illicit substances.”

Lucinda Pearman, Collector of Customs stated, “The Customs Department remains committed to securing Bermuda’s borders and preventing the importation of illegal drugs. These recent interdictions reflect the dedication and vigilance of our officers, who work tirelessly alongside the Bermuda Police Service to detect and disrupt smuggling activities. We will continue to strengthen our enforcement efforts and uphold our duty to protect the public from the dangers posed by illicit substances.”

The BPS and Customs remain resolute in their mission to protect Bermuda from the corrosive effects of drug trafficking and will maintain a proactive stance at all ports of entry. The public is reminded that community support is critical in the fight against drugs.

Witness Appeal: Car Driver Pronounced Dead After Hamilton Parish Collision

Just before 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, Police and other first responders were dispatched to a serious two vehicle road traffic collision involving a private motorcar and a Department of Public Transportation (DPT) bus on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish, just east of the Aquarium.

The male motorcar driver along with several persons from on board the DPT bus were conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the collision.

Sadly, the motorcar driver was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Bermuda Police Service offers sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

We are aware that images of the collision scene with the motorcar driver still inside the vehicle are now being circulated on social media. We are appealing for you to not forward these images on should you receive them.

The roadway was closed to all traffic for approximately four hours, while the collision scene was forensically processed. We wish to thank the public for their understanding and cooperation while this was done.

An investigation into this collision has now begun.

Update Regarding Police Activity Following Recent Serious Incidents

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Antoine Daniels - "On behalf of Bermuda Police Service(BPS) I will provide latest updates of police activities since the tragic murders of Miss Jasmin Smith (32) and Mr ShaquanWilliams (29), as well as the attempted murder of three others who were shot and injured at Legends bar on Thursday 1 May.

You will note that within the last week we have had a number of untimely sudden deaths as well, which have kept officers busy in an effort to progress these matters.

Today we are declaring the sudden death of the 28 year young lady found last Thursday morning in Warwick as a suspicious death.

A team has been assigned to conduct investigations into this matter.

Immediately after the murders of Miss Smith and Mr Williams the BPS developed/initiated a multi-purpose response plan with a number of key intents;

Conduct an investigation into the murders/attempt murders

Target those responsible, while at same time reduce opportunities for retaliation

Provide high visibility presence across the island and in particular those areas where the violence is likely to occur

Provide community reassurance to the affected neighbourhoods and wider community

Provide regular updates to local our community and of course seek the public assistance with appeals for information/witnesses

I take this opportunity to both thank and commend those members of the community who have provided various forms of assistance thus far – your support is greatly appreciated and without you these types of investigations are more difficult reconcile.

The results of this initiative are, since 3 May:

441 Stop and Searches

11 warrants executed, 10 linked to the murder investigation

50 MVT’s issued

27 arrests which includes 3 for suspicion of murder

At the time of this release 2 remain in custody with one having been released on bail pending further investigations.

In addition to the BPS response plans we have received support from our partners at Crime Stoppers, who are offering a monetary reward.

The independent charity Crime Stoppers offers up to five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) reward for the information that leads to an arrest and conviction of each of the individuals responsible for this incident, or the seizure of a firearm.

Social Media Posts Could Hamper Ongoing Sudden Death Investigation

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of a number of social media posts making allegations in relation to an ongoing police investigation, involving an unresponsive female found near Warwick playground.

The BPS is requesting that should you receive these messages or posts, you do not forward them on and instead, delete them from your device.

This social media activity could hamper the ongoing investigation, as well as negatively impact any possible future prosecution.

Also of concern is the risk to the safety and wellbeing of persons identified.

Please allow us to complete our investigations and do not intervene against any persons identified in those posts. Doing so, could result in your arrest and or prosecution.

Sudden Death of Ms. Honee Smith

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm identity of the woman who was found unresponsive in an area near the Warwick Playground as, Honee Smith.

Unfortunately, Ms. Smith succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Smith was found shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, on a rocky embankment just off the trails near the playground.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and an active investigation into how Ms. Smith came to be in that location is now underway.

An autopsy is anticipated in due course.

The Bermuda Police Service is once again appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and who may have seen a lone female along the trails to make contact with Detective Sergeant Kendy Swainson on, 717-2355 or via e-mail at, kswainson@bps.bm.

Second Suspect Arrested in Connection With Fatal Sandys Parish Shooting

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the arrest of a second suspect, a 23-year-old male, in connection with the fatal shooting which took place at the Legends club in Sandys, on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

The first suspect arrested, remains in custody while the search continues for two others.

We wish to thank those members of the public who have assisted by coming forward and providing information about this incident. Information which has helped us to significantly progress our investigation.

Should you have any information regarding the events of last Thursday night, and have not yet reached out to us, we urge you to please do so. Appeal Against Misinformation

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of rumours circulating in the community, that a suspect believed to have been injured in the shooting incident at the Legends bar, Somerset Road, Sandys, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, has succumbed to their injuries.

Our investigations have found no evidence to substantiate these claims.

However, we urge that if anyone has been injured that the individual, or those who may be looking after them, contact us so that we might assist in helping that person obtain any medical care they require.

Alternatively, the individual should be taken directly to hospital, if their injuries are believed to be serious or life-threatening.

We are appealing to the public, should you have any information as to where the injured person is located or who might be assisting them, to please get in contact with Acting Detective Superintendent, (ADS) Jason Smith on, 717-0864 or, via e-mail at, jsmith2@bps.bm.

Fatal Sandys Parish Shooting Victim Identification

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the identities of the two people who succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting incident which took place inside the Legends bar, Sandys, around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

They are, 32-year-old, Jasmin Smith and 29-year-old, Shaquan Williams.

The BPS extends condolences the families of the deceased.

The investigation regarding this incident is ongoing and the BPS is grateful to those persons who have already come forward to assist with inquiries.

However, we are appealing for anyone with any information who may not yet have reached out, to please contact the Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Derricka Burns.
