Motorists, area businesses and members of the public are reminded that the following temporary road closure and parking restrictions will be in effect today (December 17th) for the 2pm funeral and memorial procession in remembrance of retired Commissioner of Police Mr. Frederick ‘Penny’ Bean OBE QPM (as outlined in the December 12th City of Hamilton traffic notice). Temporary traffic management measures will also be in effect to allow for the passage of the memorial procession.

Upcoming Road Sobriety Checkpoints in Six Parishes

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public that the next series of road sobriety checkpoints (as specified in the Official Gazette Notice Thursday, December 13th) will be conducted starting this Friday, December 21st.

The checkpoints will be in effect in Hamilton parish, Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget, Warwick and Southampton on Friday, December 21st, Saturday, December 22nd and Sunday, December 23rd.

Pedal Cyclist Sustains Serious Eye Injury [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place at approximately 6:39pm tonight (Saturday).

It appears that a cyclist fell off his bicycle on Dunscombe Road, Warwick and as a result, the rider has suffered a serious eye injury and the roads have been blocked off while the scene is being processed.

City of Hamilton Incident: Two Students Arrested, One Officer Injured

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of the video footage being circulated around social media showing police interaction with a group of students and it is not a complete characterization of everything that took place.

For context, around 4:10pm Thursday, December 13th Police Support Unit (PSU) officers were on patrol in the City of Hamilton after a report of an altercation involving school students.

Driver Injured in North Shore Road Crash Admitted to ICU

At last check this afternoon (December 12th) the driver injured in a single vehicle car crash on North Shore Road in Pembroke near the north gate of Government House – believed to be a 49 year old Warwick man – was listed in critical but stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

The 49 year old was hurt when the car he was driving struck a wall at 10:08am Wednesday.

The Christmas Season is upon us. It is a time for celebration and get-togethers. House parties and office parties are scheduled. With these parties comes alcohol consumption. Bermuda continues to have an average of 1 fatality a month.

Investigation Regarding the Murder of 33 Year Old Paul Johnson

Chief Inspector Arthur Glasford – At 2:59am today (December 10th) the peace and tranquillity of the early morning hours was disturbed as police received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of Rambling Lane in Pembroke.

Upon police arrival they came upon a male lying on the ground outside of his residence. Police commenced CPR and other lifesaving measures and he was subsequently taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where time of death was certified at 3:33am.

Shooting On Rambling Lane [Updated]

Police and other first responders attended a report of a firearms incident that took place outside of a residence on Rambling Lane in Pembroke at 3 am this morning (Monday). Details are still emerging, but it appears that a 33 year old male was shot outside of his residence and taken to the hospital via ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

No further information on the deceased will be given until the next of kin have been notified.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley – The Bermuda Police Service mourns the loss of former Police Commissioner, Mr. Frederick Colborn "Penny" Bean.

When I received the call last evening alerting me on the passing of our late Commissioner, I immediately began to reflect on all of the powerful sentiments that were expressed to me in the short time I have been on the island about the character of Mr. Bean by serving and former officers.
