Counterfeit Currency Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service Fraud Unit has recorded an increase in the number of counterfeit BDA $100 notes being passed throughout the island. Businesses and individuals alike are advised to be on the lookout for suspected counterfeit currency in ALL denominations. Currently there are identified counterfeit notes in circulation that bear the following serial numbers -

  • DI 034794
  • DI 129825
  • DI 182285
  • CI 342541

Please check all currency for common security features which include -

  • Metallic security thread
  • Watermarks
  • Paper quality

Please also check to see if the ink 'runs.' Most counterfeit in circulation is being generated on ink jet printers, and the ink will 'run' if it gets wet. Genuine currency will not do this.

It is a criminal offence to -

  • Pass to another
  • Possess
  • Make
  • Reproduce

any counterfeit currency, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
