Update - Marcus Gibbings Murder Inquiry

The Serious Crime Unit of the Bermuda Police Service continues to investigate the murder of 32 year old Marcus Gibbings. Mr. Gibbings was last seen around 8pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2006.

Mr. Gibbings was brutally attacked in a residence on Derwent Lane, Devonshire with a bladed weapon. Police are satisfied that nothing was stolen from the residence or from Mr. Gibbings in this attack and that the scene and other information collected in the course of the investigation suggest Mr. Gibbings was the target of his assailant.

Police continue to appeal to anyone who saw Mr. Gibbings after 8pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 to make contact with the investigating team. A further appeal is being made to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Derwent Lane, Roberts Avenue or the Glebe Road in Devonshire and to anyone who associated or socialized with Mr. Gibbings other than in the normal course of business to contact the Serious Crime Unit.

Information has been received by the investigating team that alleges Mr. Gibbings was involved in an altercation of some kind with an unknown person or persons somewhere in the City of Hamilton, in the weeks leading up to his death. This incident was allegedly witnessed by at least one person. We are appealing to that person or anyone else who may have seen this incident or who may have heard about this incident to contact the Serious Crime Unit.

In the course of the investigation to date, 33 days after the discovery of Mr. Gibbings in the residence on Derwent Lane, 143 statements have been recorded from friends, colleagues and others associated to Mr. Gibbings or the inquiry. The investigating team is committed to investigating ALL lines of inquiry with the support of the Bermuda Police Service's Intelligence Unit, Forensic Support Unit, IT Department and experts overseas in their respective capacities.
