Attempted Robbery

Around 1 this morning, Police attended a reported attempted robbery on Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction with Camp Hill. The victims, a 35 year old Sandy’s parish man and a 40 year old Sandy’s parish woman, stated that around 12:25am they were riding their rental cycle on Middle Road (between White’s Supermarket and the Heron Bay Market Place) when an unknown man rode alongside them and attempted to grab a purse from the cycle’s basket; however, he was unsuccessful in doing so. The suspect then tried to knock the couple off their rental cycle several times; but was also unsuccessful. Before riding off, the suspect demanded $20 from the couple, who refused to give him any money. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a grey helmet with a full face visor. He was riding a grey scooter with no lights on to the front or rear. The victims were not injured and nothing was taken during the incident. Robbery

Around 11pm on Thursday, Police received a report of a robbery on Naval Tanks Hill in St. George’s. The victims, a 50 year old woman and a 49 year old woman, are American visitors to the island. They stated that around 11:15pm they left the White Horse Tavern and walked along Naval Tanks Hill towards Tobacco Bay when they were approached by a young man brandishing a machete. He demanded that they give him the handbag they were carrying. The young man then pushed the 50 year old woman to the ground, taking the handbag before making good his escape on foot. She sustained bruising to her left arm as a result. The black & green bag contained U.S. $35 in cash, a silver Cingular cellular phone and other personal items. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’6” tall of slim build, wearing dark shades, a baseball cap, a red sports jersey and long blue jeans. He is believed to be around 18 years old. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 297-1122.
