Shoplifting

Wed, 2006-01-11

Around 10:20am on Wednesday, Police attended a report of shoplifting at the A1 Supermarket on South Road in Smith's parish. On arrival officers spoke with the manager who stated that at 10am a man entered the store and was observed 3 putting bottles of vodka into his pants. The man then left the store without paying for the items and entered a nearby restaurant. The manager followed the suspect and confronted him inside the restaurant. The suspect then ran from the restaurant, pursued by the supermarket manager. Although the suspect, a 34 year old man of no fixed abode was able to elude the manager, he was subsequently arrested by Police at 10:25am on South Road in Smith's parish near the junction with Williams Estate Road. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Advisory

At 12:30pm today, the Bermuda Police Service will be escorting one of the mobile home units from the Government Quarry in Smith's parish to Morgan's Point in Sandy's parish. The mobile home will be transported from the Government Quarry along Harrington Sound Road on to Paynters Road, then on South Road as far as Barnes Corner; it will then continue on Middle Road to George's Bay Road and then on to Morgan's Point. We are asking all motorists to avoid the above route and take alternate roads as the mobile home will take up the entire road (both lanes) as it makes its way westward. The Bermuda Police Service thanks the motoring public in advance for their co-operation in this matter.
