Arrest

At 4:05 this morning, Police attended a reported breaking and entering in progress at a restaurant on Court Street in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the owners who stated that when they arrived at the restaurant to set up for the day, they heard noises at the rear of the premises. Officers went to the area where the noises were coming from, and saw a man emerge from the building. He ran along Court Street and through several properties in the area, pursued by the officers. Despite briefly disappearing from view the suspect, a 44 year old Devonshire man, was eventually located hiding under a boat in a nearby parking lot. He was arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. A female officer sustained a wrist injury and a male officer sustained a knee injury during the pursuit of the suspect. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Handbag Snatch

Around 10:20pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 26 year old Pembroke woman, who stated that she was walking in the area of Primavera Restaurant when an unknown man walked towards her and grabbed her purse. The man then made good his escape, running between Primavera and the Bacardi building. The woman called out for help and a member of the public came to her assistance. Her purse was subsequently located; however, the culprit stole $40 in cash and a silver Nokia cellular phone from the handbag. The suspect is described as a white male with a close haircut, approximately 5' 10" tall wearing a black jacket. The Pembroke woman was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Breaking & Entering

At 10:25pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported breaking and entering at a Melville Road, Devonshire residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainants who stated that sometime between 9am and 6:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a black & silver laptop computer, a brand new satellite receiver, a silver I-Pod, a silver Palm Pilot in a silver case, a gold Omega watch, a brown & black Toshiba laptop computer and a black DVD player. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
