Fatal RTC

At 10:40 this morning, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Fairmont Drive involving a car and a bus. It appears that the bus was traveling west on South Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the car apparently crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with the bus. The driver of the car, a 77 year old Warwick man, had to be extracted from the vehicle by Bermuda Fire Service personnel. The Warwick man was then taken to KEMH via ambulance in an unresponsive state and subsequently pronounced dead at 11:25am by an on call physician at the hospital. The driver of the bus and his lone passenger were not injured. The car was extensively damaged, while the bus received front end damage. Traffic was diverted away from the area for approximately two hours following the collision. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Eddie Smith at the Traffic Enforcement Unit on 299-4265 or the main Police number, 295-0011. No further information will be released until the next of kin is notified.

This marks the 2nd road traffic fatality for 2006.

Breaking & Entering/Assault

At 8:05pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported breaking and entering/assault at a North Court Avenue, Pembroke residence. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 47 year old Pembroke man. He stated that around 7:20pm he was at home watching TV when he heard noises outside his window. When he went to investigate he found an unknown man inside the house and another man attempting to gain entry. One of the suspects grabbed the victim and then opened the door to let two other men in. The four men then demanded money from the 47 year old and beat him about the head and body before making good their escape. One of the suspects took a pair of sunglasses belonging to the victim. The Pembroke man sustained cuts & bruises to his arms and hands, and swelling to his face. He was taken to KEMH for treatment and later released. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
