The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 45 year old Alvin Flood of St. George's. Mr. Flood was fatally injured after a three vehicle collision on Saturday morning in Hamilton parish. At 8:50am on Saturday, Police attended a fatal road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Radnor Road, involving a motorcycle, a car and a truck. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling west on North Shore Road in a line of vehicles when traffic slowed to allow the lead vehicle to turn into Whitter's Barbershop. As a result, the motorcycle struck the rear bumper of the car in front of it, and the rider fell into the path of a truck traveling east. The 45 year old St. George's man sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however he was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician at the hospital. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

Disturbance

Around 12:10am on Saturday, Police received a report of a disturbance at the Somerset Cricket Club in Sandy's parish. On arrival officers observed a group of men standing at the junction of Broome Street and Cricket Lane. After seeing Police, a car attempted to flee the scene and was pursued by a Police vehicle with its emergency equipment activated (lights & siren) along Broome Street. The vehicle failed to stop initially, but was subsequently brought to a halt when Police vehicles approached from the front and rear. The driver of the car, a 27 year old Sandy's parish man, attempted to maneuver around the Police vehicle in front which was blocking his path, as an officer tried to get the keys out of the ignition. The car ended up colliding with the wall that borders the Cricket Club. The Sandy's parish man then attempted to exit the car and escape, but was apprehended by Police after a brief struggle. He was arrested for assault on Police and the car was impounded. A hostile crowd then formed on Cricket Lane and advanced towards the officers at the scene. A verbal confrontation ensued; however, the officers were able to keep the crowd at bay until additional Police units arrived to provide backup. The crowd eventually dispersed. Two officers were injured during the arrest of the Sandy's parish man; however, their injuries appear to be relatively minor. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
