Handbag Snatch

At 1:05 this morning, Police received a report of a handbag snatch on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 22 year old woman who is a visitor to the island. She stated that around 1am she was walking on Front Street near Number 1 Shed when an unknown man approached her from the cycle parking area. The suspect then made some comments to the 22 year old which made her feel uneasy, so she walked into the centre of the road and attempted to get the attention of two men who were walking towards her and a taxi which was also traveling in her direction. As she did so, the suspect grabbed her purse and a struggle ensued. The suspect eventually managed to take the purse from the victim and make good his escape up Burnaby Street, despite being pursued by one of the men who was walking towards the 22 year old; meanwhile, the other man went to check on the visitor, who was not injured during the incident. The purse contained U.S. $150 in cash and personal items. The suspect is described as a light to medium brown skinned male, 6' tall of slim build with close cut hair wearing light blue jeans, a white t-shirt and white sneakers. Police are appealing for any witnesses, particularly the two men who came to the visitor's aid, to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Robbery

At 4pm on Monday, Police attended a reported robbery on Queen Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 21 year old security officer from Devonshire. He stated that at 3:50pm that day he and another security officer went to pick up the day's earnings at an area business. However, there was no cash at the establishment to collect, so they walked back to their vehicle. As they did so, an unknown man approached the 21 year old security officer and punched him in the face. The suspect then grabbed the money bag he was holding and ran to a waiting car parked on Queen Street (near Ice Queen) which sped off. Apparently the Devonshire man was not injured during the incident. The black canvas money bag contained 5 empty bank bags. The suspect is described as a brown skinned make, approximately 5'6" - 6' tall, wearing a grey short sleeved t-shirt with a black logo on the front and black pants. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
