Handbag Snatch

Around 9:05pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on St. John's Road in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 45 year old female visitor to the island. The victim stated that she and her daughter were walking along St. John's Road to their accommodation after going for a swim at Admiralty House. As they passed Controversy Lane, an unknown man rode up behind them and grabbed the 45 year old woman's beach bag. She was dragged to the ground as she attempted to hold on; however, the suspect managed to make good his escape with the bag. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male with a sharp jaw line wearing a burgundy helmet and a dark coloured jacket. He was riding a dark coloured rental cycle. The beach bag is described as green with roses on it and contained a digital camera and personal items. The victim sustained abrasions to her knees, but declined medical treatment at KEMH. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Burglary

Around 6:30pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Vaucrossons Crescent, Pembroke residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 8am and 6:20pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her apartment. The culprit stole a silver Pentax digital camera. Also at the same location, Police attended another reported burglary. The complainant stated that sometime between 9am and 6pm that day, an unknown culprit entered her apartment. The culprit stole a gold chain with a diamond and sapphire pendant, a pair of gold hoop earrings and a pair of gold bracelets. Inquiries into these incidents are underway.

At 4:55pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Fruitland Lane, Pembroke residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 1:15pm and 4:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home. The culprit stole $60 worth of coins, an E-machine laptop computer, a Toshiba laptop computer, a DVD player, two cameras, a radio, a laptop carrying case, two backpacks and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
